Hello fellow enthusiasts, I have two issues that I need help with:
1. My light delay switch does not turn off.To ensure that the head lights are off when the engine is shut down I have to disconnect the electrical connection from the socket on the rear view mirror. HELLP!!!
2. My compass/Temp. display is not working, I need help to remove it with a view to replacing or repairing it any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
From the factory service manual regarding the overhead console:
Console — Overhead
Removal
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
If equipped, open the garage door remote cover.
If equipped, remove the screws.
Remove the overhead console.
Disconnect the two electrical connectors (three connectors on moonroof equipped vehicles).
I'm not sure what you need to do if "not equipped". But before trying to remove it, I'd suggest you check fuse 10 (7.5 amp) in the Central Junction Box to make sure it's not blown and getting power through both sides when the key is in the Run position.
As to the autolamps that don't shut off, other than not shutting off after the time delay do they work correctly (ie: only come on when dark)? The socket on the review mirror is the day/night sensor, but shouldn't really impact if the autolamp switch has power with the key off.... Does your Explorer have Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)?
Shorod, are there any clips holding the console that have to be manuvered off?
The auto light delay does not turn off as it should when the slide is all the way to the left (off posotion) This is the case whether the key is on or off.
I'm not sure on the clips. There's nothing specific about it in the manual and I don't think I ever had the overhead console off when I still had my 2000.
Do the autolights turn on normally when it is dark out, they just fail to turn off after you turn the key off?
Right, but do they turn back on as soon as you plug the connector back in, or if you start the truck on a bright sunny day and plug in the sensor do the headlights come on right away, or do they remain off until it gets dark?
Since the lights only turn on at night once the sensor is plugged back in, it would seem the sensor is working correctly. The problem would most likely then be in the auto headlight module itself.
i have an electrical problem -- when switched on there is a clicking noise from the dash and the radio goes off, fuel gauge reeds empty dash lights go out. thumping the dash brings everything back and the clicking stops. where do i look first

More info is needed. What year, make, model, etc? What did you switch on? Approximate area of the clicking?
sorry about the specs .the vehicle is a 2004 F350 lariate diesel
The clicking noise is about the centre of the dash. The dash lights, radio go off and the fuel gauge drops to empty. As I asked before where do I look first Thanks Profjobe
Hey everyone have a problem with my explorer its a 96 4/4. Was having the same problem with my (DRL) had to disconnect them too and now it seems that my alternator isn't charging my battery I just replaced both. I'm sure it's electrical problems but don't know where to begin to look or check fuses I don't have the manual for it lol any ideas ?
Along these posts, I have a 98 Explorer,5.0,AWD, Eddie Bauer. My DRL switch on mirror will turn on & off the headlamps, not the taillamps. Dealer told me that 98's didn't have DRL, only auto delay for headlamps. Is this true ?
Is there any evidence that your 1998 came from Canada? I don't believe US-spec Explorers came with DRL in 1998, but Canada may have, or it might have been added aftermarket. I'd suspect more that what you have is an aftermarket system since it only works the headlights. That was the approach GM took, but few others did, and I never understood it. I often see folks driving their older GMs around in the evening with only the DRL headlights on and no taillights.
