I've got a '95 F250 with the stock 460. I've been looking around online for my camshaft options and was puzzled that no one lists a Comp Cam for a 95. The cutoff is 94. I know that mass air came on some 96-97 trucks (my truck is SD), but I can't see how there is could be any difference between a 94 and a 95 engine that wouldn't allow me to install an aftermarket camshaft. Should I worry about this, or just go for it?
It might be that in '95 some states (California) had MAF on the truck while most states kept the SD system. They may want to avoid problems based on ordering the cam based solely on the year. The '94 compatible cam should work.
I don't know what the difference would be, but when I had a 91 460 rebuilt last winter I wanted to run an "RV" cam. My machine shop guys wouldn't do it. They said to change cams would lower the vacuum, causing the ECM to "think" the engine was accelerating, thereby dumping too much fuel. Then mpg would go down and it would run lousy.
