the coolant temp seems to be dropping, as a few weeks pass its normal in the middle. now it seems its getting lower and stays there. everyday starts and runs fine. temp warms up as i drive but the needle seems to get lower. like lower than yesterday. just seems like its lower than normal. fluid is all there.
It could be a bad thermostat, sensor, or an electrical issue with the sensor. I would start by replacing the thermostat; they're inexpensive and can be a common source of temperature problems.
How has the cooling system been maintained? Has it been changed every 30,000 miles like it should have, or has it been neglected?
i would plug in my OBD2 code reader and tell it to monitor coolant temp on the code reader's screen while i took it for a drive. if its not good and warm in a couple miles, you need a thermostat. but if it is up to a proper temperature, then you have issues somewhere in the gage system.
with winter coming on, you want that sucker to get nice and warm and stay there
Yes I agree with above statement...the only other thing I would add is to try and check / verify the temperature with one of those point and shoot thermal guns to see if it is the actual temperature it is supposed to open at, or if your guage is doing the mambo....

what should it read at normal temp? ill try it today.
its definatly somewhere between 180 and 200. i would have guessed it came stock with a 195.
with a good thermostat, you should be up to operating temp within 2 miles of driving unless its really cold where you are. a thermostat thats stuck open will take much longer to find a steady temp, which will probably be pretty cold like 150 or something
