There are benefits to either system. I replaced my airsprings on my '94 Mark VIII about 10 years ago and although I am satisfied I wish I had more patience and worked harder at finding and curing the problem(s) with the system.
I had some issues with my Navigator's system and I have had all the parts needed to convert to coils but I decided that I liked the features of the air suspension more than I dislike the potential of problems. I will occaisionaly tow a 14,000 gross weight trailer and the air suspension keeps my Navigator level instead of tail dragging and that helps to keep it all under control when traveling. Also when we have heavy/deep snow I can put the truck in 4X4 Low and the truck will rise 1 1/2 to 2 inches to provide addional ground clearance. I can then turn the suspension off and put the truck into A4WD or 4X4 high and maintain the height until I want it to be lower.
I suggest that you fix any issue(s) that there are as they happen and you will be more satisfied with your truck.

Before winter sets in I suggest that you do the soapy water test on all of the connections and the rear air springs. If you have a Pick-N-Pull parts yard you should look for a truck with air suspension and buy the rear springs, just to have on hand. Make sure they are hard when you start to remove them as that will tell you they are most likely still good. There are also several sources for Reman springs and other parts. The only maintenance I can think of would be to replace the O-rings on all of the solenoids. One good part to have on hand would be the air line connector or union that is in the line over the steering shaft in front of the master cylinder. It's about $25.00 at the dealership and may not be on hand when it's needed.
