Noooo not that kind of vibration....get your head out of the gutter ya'll. Anyways, I took the truck up to Hibdon's to get a wheel that was out of balance fixed. They said they had to "spin" the tire on the rim to get it to balance out. Okay, so I thought that'll do the trick. I get back on the road and the vibration seems to be better. Now after driving it for two days to work it seems to be vibrating again.
Should I take the truck back up to them and have them re-check the balance? Also, the symptoms of this started after I swapped my axle out recently. You guys should remember that. Anyways, could I have a rear drum out of balance?
The vibration is bad enough that it stresses me out a little bit. Could I have a bad shock? The rear shocks seemed just fine when I swapped the axle out. THis is driving me nuts. I want my truck to run smooth down the road.
Yes, take it back for sure. But, can you describe the conditions in which it vibrates? Power on? Cruising? Just easing off on the power? Coast, meaning full off? These give us hints on what the problem is.
However, go see if you did what I did recently - didn't get a u-joint fully seated in the pinion yoke. Make sure the caps are down in all the way. That caused a small vibration.

Gary, Its sort of hit and miss. It feels like a out of balance wheel to me. When I get to about 45-65 mph its a fairly coarse vibration. When I hit 70mph+ it seems to become a finer vibration. I will check those u-joints this evening. If thats messed up I will be coming over!
If all 4 wheels and tires are the same size, switch the suspected tire for one on the opposite axle [rear to front or front to rear] and see if the source of vibration is different.
I'm in KS seeing Dad. But, if it is just the cups not seated in the yoke you can seat them and be good to go. No damage done. And, not getting them seated will give a vibe like that - sensitive to RPM.

How can the cups NOT seat in the yoke? The cups only go into the yoke one way. You just sit them in the yoke and bolt down the u-bolts. Are you saying the cups have wiggle room on the yoke?

Are you sure you didn't get a slightly bent axle? All it takes is .020-.030" to get a vibration. If you know somebody with a lathe and a dial indicator, they should be able to check it.
I went through that on a car I used to have, thinking it was a tire and it turned out to be an axle.
I still have my old rear. If I have a bent axle I can use one from the other axle. Can I swap axles out without swapping the inner race? Or do the races have to go with each other?

Don't know what is recommended, but I have done it successfully.
Maybe I should pull one axle and replace the suspected axle just for fun.
Put that side, only, on a jack stand and you shouldn't lose any lube. Just make sure both axles have the same kind of bearings. Might answer the question fairly easily.
