Engine swap question.....

Hey guys, it's been a while as my beast was in storage after some major front end issues and now unrepairable rust damage in the whole cab/ body.
I have never lost faith that my first kid will be brought back with a new lease of life and just recently started on the lookout for the right DNOR again.
My late '99 PSD has a great, strong engine but is only 2WD. Where I am located I REALLY want to make her a 4WD when I do the major work that is needed anyways. Here is the question; I have found a good looking gasser that has crazy miles but seems solid in body and cosmetically. I realize going from 2 to 4 will require axle and driveshaft changes, but what about transmission and electrics? I reall would like to just swap my 7.3 into the gasser leaving the drivetrain and 4WD intact, but it this even a possibility? Are they the same tranny on the gasser as the PSD has?
Also, how much effort is it (I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment here) to swap out the whole dash, as I'm sure I'll need to do? I do *potentially* have a lot of help but want to know if this project is even a starter, or should I continue looking for a straight 7.3 donor truck?

Thanks in advance for all help.
Cheers!
Dave.

No, it isn't a possibility. A trans from any gas engine won't bolt to a diesel transmission.

IIRC the transmission case is different and the Torque converter (gas) has 4 bolts and the 7.3 is 6 bolt. You will need to swap all wiring and PCM, brake system (if not hydroboost). Also, you will need your intercooler and those things. Have you considered looking for a L99-mid 03 donor truck with a blown 7.3? Finding one of those would be the easiest and cheapest to do. Where are you located by chance?

Thanks both for the replies. Yeh, a blown 7.3 is what I've been hoping/ looking for, but not many to be found. I am now in Caribbean so would ship out of Miami.
Please let me know if you hear of any. have good motor and interior in mine. Cheers.

In fact if ANYONE hears of a 7.3 with 4WD and good body (crew or super) would appreciate hearing about them. Thanks again.
