Hey yall! My 98 Expy rear a/c was making a hissing sound the other day and the a/c wasnt even turned on. I took the cover off and the rubber lines were very hot and the pressure lines were wet and cold. BUT it wasnt turned on!
Well today, I turned my truck off and the front heater core sounds like its gurgling. Its not leaking and theres no odor. I replaced the heater core a few years ago.
I have also been having a few blend door issues, could this be causing it?
Sometimes you hear the compressed HVAC going thru the evap for a little, then it is done. Difference in temp of the AC hoses is normal and also moisture on the cold side. Maybe turn on the heater full bore for a little too.
What you are hearing it the AC pump over chargind due to not shutting off. Pull the plug at the clutch to shut it off until you figure out your power on problem. If the evaporator was cracked it would have bled off all the refrig by now I would think. The clutch on the compressor must be locked on electrically, have not seen one stay on by itself? Possibly the relay contacts melted together. If you run the truck and airconditon you should hear the compressor cycle if normal. Then turn it back off to see if it then shuts off.
Today I looked and found my compressor running and the lines were covered in frost while my a/c was not turned on. So the compressor is definitly running with the controls turned to off. I unplugged the compressor and the clutch continued to run with the pulley. So I think I have a clutch bad and frozen to the pulley. I just replaced that clutch in June, maybe I got a bad one.
You've got to it now, just get the clutch right, but you have probably taken the life out of the compressor, that's the reason you just noticed it as things have coolen down a lot in temps most places. You will probably need to test the high and lows to make sure about your capabilities for next summer. If you aren't good with the PSI's it won't handle the 90 degree plus days. You will be doing it all over again. Your good to go again next time probably if you got the good PSI's for hot weather.
