Changes to the intake looking for more mileage for normal driveing use won't gain anything.
The stock system flows more than enough air. Same filter and intake is used on the larger 5.4 motors.
Many people jump on fuel filters looking for better mileage.
It's old thinking in relation to fuel injection..
A restricted filter would run the motor lean and produce a code to match.
Normally the fuel pump produces pressures above 90 psi then is regulated down to the 38 psi range +/- so you can see the filter only stops dirt getting into the injectors.
The trouble would only begin if a filter restriction were to match the fuel regulator pressure then the pressure to the injectors begins to drop running the motor lean.
Once that happens the OX sensors try to richen up the fuel until the fuel tables go out of limits. Then the code is set.
When it would go that far, you would only find it with a fuel pressure test or just get lucky changing the filter and not know what had happened.
More than you wanted to know but we aim to help.
Good luck.
