The grill in the center of the dash on my 1986 F150 Lariat has broken out so I am looking for to replace the dash. LMC Truck part #49-5518-LL looks like a replacement but "is designed to install over your existing dash". I don't see how that part could fit over the existing dash in the available space so I contacted LMC to ask. Unfortunately, their 800 number is a "call center" and the representatives there have no knowledge of the parts other than what is printed in their catalog. Have any of you purchased / installed one of the LMC 49-5518 dash covers? If yes, did it actually fit over the old dash or install as a replacement? Thanks.
I have not purchased one from LMC, but have installed a like dash pad "cover". They are easy to install and actually look pretty good, if you are not a purist and HAVE to have original. These fit over your original and are made of a plastic type material. You do not have to remove your present one. The "cover" is held in place with a silicone adhesive which comes with the cover.
Your other option is to visit junkyards and find a better one.
A forum member named Em had a thread detailing repair of a dash pad as part of her interior upgrade. Some members have been creative and found a similar sized shallow dish to make fit in the speaker opening. This way, they had a place to store coins, etc.
