I am helping my daughter work on her 1975 f100. I am a carpenter/cabinet maker. I have a Sharpe 775 siphon handed down from my father. I would like to use it as it serviced him well and why buy a new gun? I used it yesterday for the first time in 20 years for primer. It din not seem to push out the paint that well. I would like to properly clean the whole gun and be sure I have the correct tip before I spray the fenders. I do not have a special tool to remove the tip, if it is required. I could use some help please as he is gone and I could not fiond help on the internet. Thanks
Siphon guns like that work OK, but they are not real efficient .......they use way more material than an hvlp gun. I used Binks And Devilbiss siphon guns for years, painted hundreds of cars.....so it will work for that.
They work best with 40-50# air pressure at the gun....play around with the adjustments to get the best flow and fan pattern.
It should come apart with normal hand tools. Once apart, carefully remove all packings and plastic parts. Then soak all of the metal parts in lacquer thinner... blow dry all passages.
It has a 1.8 tip......pretty big for modern paints.
The air cap just screws off by hand.....the fluid tip should have a hex on it, just un-thread it. The needle comes out the back by removing the fluid control ****.
