I´m Stefan (call me Brinki) from Germany. I´ve got some problems with my new 94´ Ford Econoline. Because of not really good technical english, a friend of mine, living in NC/USA, does translations for me. Read what the problems are: Symptoms: Rough idle, sometimes the engine even dies and also occasional misfires. Engine hesitates when throttle is increased and stumbles under partial load.
Items replaced or checked: Distributor cap and rotor, fuel and airfilter, sparkplugs and several vacuum hoses. Oxygen ratio and fuel pressure were checked and within range. Ignition timing according to manual, ignition advance works.
I am at a loss where else to look.
any help????
I´ll also would like to do an introduction, but can´t find where...
I'm no expert, but you might try replacing the throttle position sensor, it's located on the bottom side of the throttle body, so you'll need to pull the throttle body to change it. I've had to replace two of these on two different 5.8's I've owned. Also replace the fuel filter if you have not done so already.
Hi,folks..
here i´m back again. Done the self test running and i´m not sure, what i´m find out.
The "check engine"-light does the following blinks:
first -we where not sure how to notice it- the blinks were like this:
6 - 3 - 6 pause 6 - 3 - 6 pause 1 - 1 - 1
the second run - we hope the system will replay the codes to get sure what we notice- the blinks were only like this:
1 - 1 - 1 pause 1 - 1 - 1
we did the KOEO-self running
therefore the codes mean: 1-1-1 system pass ( german translation??)
6-3-6 TOT sensor voltage out of self test
range ( what is TOT??)
is there any sense in this codes in connection with my described problem??
No indication to an defect throttle position sensor (TPS??)
TOT is the transmission oil temp sensor, but this may be a misleading code because the test should be performed after the powertrain is at operating temp.
But the fact that everything else is clear(111 codes) means you have no further electronic problems so the stumbling is related to potential problems like bad plug wires, broken vacuum lines, low fuel pressure, or rusted or broken smog equipment. The air injection system that routes around the back of the engine and connects to either the heads or the exhaust will produce a lean stumble if there are any leaks in it, this will show as a an exhaust leak that you can't quite pinpoint or a problem that only occurs once the engine reaches operating temp.
Thanks a lot for detailed description. Every single part of the ignition is brand new, fuel pressure at 2,5 bar, and all filters are new. Compression is even checked and nice....I´ll try to translate your further instructions and hints and will be back.
On the pipe at the Filterbox goes an Hose to the Air Pump.
The big opening misses an Snorkel that goes above the Battery and on this snorkel is an elbow where the cut-off hose belongs
Something like that is what i thought. Today I put the bigger hose (Air-Pump IN) with an extension to the air-filter Clean-side, and the smaller hose aside, so that comes no dirt in it-
i think about to put a small air-filter, like these in it (Air-Pump OUT). Do you think that will be ok??
