Just a heads up guys, I just replaced my stock radiator with a Champion aluminum radiator for $222.00 and took my old one in for scrap and got just short of $75.00 bucks for it, so the net on the radiator was less than $150.00. Make sure you strip all of the steel off of the core before you bring it in. I didn't the first time and they gave me less that $25 dollars. Use a magnet to tell what is and is not steel, and just rip it off with a pry bar and hammer! Thats a pretty smoking deal for a new radiator! What really sucks is that when I got the truck, I JY'ed the radiator I just scrapped and it cost me $175.00 with core! it would have been cheaper to get a new one! Oh well, don't make the same mistake as I did. I have put Champion radiators in both my trucks now and they seem to be a pretty quality replacement.
the x braces, and the side brackets are steel. they are spot welded on the tanks. I just used the claws of a framing hammer (they are straighter than a standard claw hammer) and ripped into it. the fittings on the bottom are steel too. Just turn them out with a wrench. Most importantly, make sure you are getting scrap copper prices. Ask before hand what they pay. I had a little over 40 lbs, and got 75 bucks which is almost 2 bucks a pound. Call around, they all have set prices for scrap.
Seems like a ton compared to what i've seen people get for steel.
How much is aluminum worth? I got thousands of cans here.
I get about $0.10-$0.15 a pound for steel. But it's a lot easier to get large amounts of steel compared to brass.
Clean aluminum ( not cans ) I usually get $0.25-$0.50 a pound. Cans are usually in the $0.35-$0.45 a pound range. But prices can vary quite a bit depending on your location and the quantity you've got. The place I haul to pays a little more for cans if you have over a 100 pounds.
There is alot of free charts for you to look at there,They can be a few days old unless you have a brokerage account look at the metals futures,It helps so your not getting ripped off....At a $buck$ you got ripped!

The $1.00 a pound wasn't for copper. Clean copper was over $3.00 a pound. It was for copper & brass radiators. But thanks for the link.
