Idle/oil Pressure Problems?
MY 1986 4X4 XLT B2, WITH A 2.9 V6, IS CONFUSING ME! THE ENGINE RUNS GREAT AT NORMAL SPEEDS AND CRUSING, AND SOME TIMES AT IDLE LEADING ME TO BELIVE IT IS A FUEL RELATED PROBLEM, I WILL REPLACE THE PLUGS AND ADD A NEW FUEL FILTER SOON TO WEED OUT THAT PROBLEM. BUT THE CONFUSING PART IS THE OIL LIGHT IS COMING ON RANDOMLY, AT IDLE LEADING ME TO THINK THE PRESSURE IS LOW, CAUSE OBVIOUSLY I CHECKED THE LEVEL, I EVEN PUT NEW VALVE COVERS ON IT TO KEEP MY OIL FROM LEAKING. BUT THE LEVEL IS FINE AND THE LIGHT IS STILL COMING ON WHEN I SLOW DOWN AT STOP LIGHTS AND WHEN IDELING. I HAVE IDEAS, BUT I ALSO NEED YOURS, PLEASE HELP A FELLOW B2 DRIVER, AND DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS.

Idle/oil Pressure Problems?
I recently replaced my oil pump with a high volume one. This seemed to stop the probelm I was having, but mine was only on hard breaking. I had the same problem with my 70 Torino, and a new high volume (not pressure) pump helped. You could have some "gummed up" lines that are causing flow problems, you might want to try some mystery oil to see if you can clear those lines up. I replaced the pump and oil pan gasket (not an easy task), and have had no problems since. probably not what you wanted to hear but it did seem to work for me.
