361 gas engine

now that it's cooling off, i am having a bit of trouble getting my engine to start; manual choke. [the reason i want to replace points]for some reason if the engine does not fire right up the back pressure??? causes oil to gush/squirt out of the oil filter[ a cup]. it is getting to the point i want to put a catch container underneath to avoid the clean up. after it is running it runs rough maybe oil got up in the carb?
ok question how do you start an old engine??? my newer fuel injected , computer controlled cars just fir right up. i need to work on the manual choke too, it is frozen up

You don't have to start a new thread for every question on this truck.

If your choke is frozen--open I assume--you need to fix that or you will always have difficulty with cold starts.

Oil out of the oil filter? Or air filter? Is it an oil-bath air filter?

Get the choke working first, that's very important.

With engines with carburetors, when the engine is cold, you need to pump the gas pedal two to three times before you try to start it.

Without the choke, it'll die right away, but if you keep pumping the gas pedal (not too fast), it'll keep running until it gets warm enough to idle.
