Hey guys how often do you change your air filters? I have had my truck for two or three years now and never had to change one. My truck sits all day in a concrete plant one of the dustiest places on earth LOL. I have never had any message to change and the air gauge on filter looks the same to me.
The indicator will trip if the engine is gasping for air at WOT, otherwise it's pretty useless. There is no substitute for just taking the filter out and visually inspecting it, tapping it on the ground to see how much crud falls out of the cells, etc.
Sitting in a dusty environment won't clog a filter, running in a dusty environment will, so if you just get there, park and the truck is off all day it won't make that much difference.
I've always changed air filters at least once a year. The better they can breathe, the better they can run. Even with aftermarket filters, I always use the dry filters and replaced yearly. I tried the oiled filters once. Didn't much care for the cleaning/re-oiling process.
It takes about 6 seconds to remove the air filter. It's probably the easiest maintenance task on a 6.4. It's also a somewhat expensive and very good filter, so don't use any cheap off brand replacements.

My invoice shows part 7C3Z*9601*B list $76.87, and net price $57.65 so that's in the ballpark, but you can find a bit better if your parts place doesn't have excessive markup. I'm fortunate that my Ford dealer doesn't put much markup on parts.
Yeah my dealer sucks charges out the nose for everything and our local Orileys wanted the same thing but I found it on Rock Auto for $55.00 shipped :-)
