I think the money would be better spent on repairs fuel or just plain savings but depending on what repairs pop up sometimes there is opportunity to mod with an eye towards more power. In this case I have a nasty exhaust leak which I suspect is the muffler but haven't made sure yet.
If I find reason to justify...if... what options are out there for an offroad midpipe? Custom only? Summit sure didn't list any. How about long tubes? For the work of doing headers I have no doubt id want every bit of torque I could get from the job...
Sorry! Thought I had it in my sig but I guess not. Its the little gas, the 5.4L V8 backed to the 4R100. I don't expect much speed-wise outta that combo but it would be nice to gain a little bit instead of just doing repairs when possible.
Look, I am a HUGE 5.4L fan. Ask anyone here. I am constantly amazed as to what this little 331 CID engine can do, especially when compared to the mighty 460 CID engine of the past F-250 generations.
But, at the end of the day, it is a small V-8 in a heavy truck. Sure, I will put 10,000 pounds in my trailer and head down the highway, but in terms of performance you don't see me trying to solicit drag races with most vehicles (well OK, there was the V-6 Blazer, but he had it coming ).
Gears and a good tune will help a lot, a free flowing exhaust will also help a little, but your truck isn't going to be a fire breathing beast without dropping some serious coin into power adders, like forced induction and NOS.
Or just drop a cummins in . JK but i do love the 5.4l, i would check your manifolds because they are known to rot off and maybe throw SS headers on they will last longer and make it a little louder (if you like it to be loud).
Any big names for long tubes? Didn't see any LT's on Summit. I know the mustang crowd is seeing significant gains on mod motors with LT's and O/R midpipes but like I said it doesn't appear there are any options of this nature (besides shorties and custom pipes) for us.
