Hello All,

My father has had his 01 F250 5.4L 5spd for a year and now he wants to mod it. He kinda whats a Exhaust,Chip. He wants what ever will make his truck faster more powerful you know what i mean. He kinda needs help on this one tho. He is oldschool not used to OHC engines and PC in cars. His last truck (now mine) he just grounded the heads and he was done. But he wants moreout of this truck(He wants to race my sisters V6 stang) What can he do to really add some power. Besides like a S/C

Thanks, Matt

Well Matt , I have a 01 F250 5.4 ,but with an auto. I have a chip, cat back, K&N FIPK. I have to tell you even with these mods, costing around a grand, the performace gains were minimal.
I really don't think dads truck is going to out preform your sisters stang on the drag strip based on the wieght to hp ratios alone.
These mods will make dads 250 get a little better fuel mileage.
And at best a few extra hp but unless he wants to spend some serious cash on engine internals and what not, I don't think dads truck will ever be "fast" to the point of beating the stang.

I agree with Yeti. The best mod I did was the chip. If you don't mind running 93 octane, it is a great bang for the buck. I highly recomend it. The K&N FIPK.....eh. Not a big improvement but it made a difference in colder weather. The exhaust, please take my advice on this one. Either do a muffler only or do true dual exhaust. I have a Gibson cat back stainless steel, 3", single sweptside. Even though it gave a few more ponies in the top end, it robbed some low end. I'm still thinking about throwing the old exhaust back in with a Flowmaster muffler instead. Gibson is pretty quiet. This is a work truck, so it was perfect for what I need. Still sounds pretty nice when I lay into it, though. Enough to turn heads.
Forget about beating the mustang. Unless you put a ton of bricks in backseat and trunk, you're dad ain't gonna beat it.
I've heard a lot of good things about electric fans. I'm going to try it at some point. Gears are always a good start. If the truck has 3.73, he might want to consider going to 4.10. But that's also pretty expensive. Good luck.

Matt,

Listen to Yeti and Whiteford, they know what they speak! I have a 5.4 with auto and I chipped it and put a K&N and while it did help, its not the be all to end all.

If your dad really wants to beat the 'stang you can do ONE of TWO things.... ADD 2 CYLINDERS OR let your dad pick the race course ( ie, through the mud pit!)

Good luck with the truck mods

Motorcraft,

Now I'm not saying these trucks aren't quick, when comparing it to another truck. I have spanked plenty o chevies & dodges, just not to many well handling newer "sports" cars and I use that term loosely. I can get my 35's spinning with not much of a problem, but they ain't so cheap these days and Itry to keep that to a minimum.

Look at it this way, maybe if your dad is unhappy with the truck he will give it to you!!!

yeah I would like his truck but i don't think he would give it to me seeing as already gave me a truck out right. Also the fact that he pays for every thing But Gas and like mods for my cars can't push my luck now
