What truck do I have? Decode VIN
Hi all,
Just got a new(?) truck.
Can't tell what it is.
I have seen postings on this site for F8000, L8000, LN8000 etc.
My badge says none of these; it just says Ford 8000.
I tried Googling it, but no one listed a VIN decode for a truck that old.
My title says 1978, but the sticker on the door says 1977.
VIN is d80dvo66715.
The tile (NY) says body/hull = dump.
It appears I can't attach pictures as a newbie, so I uploaded them to a server:
http://www.you-recycle.com/78 ford truck 1.jpg
http://www.you-recycle.com/78 ford truck 2.jpg
http://www.you-recycle.com/78 ford truck 3.jpg
Can anyone tell me anything helpful about this truck?

At one time, some states registered vehicles in the year they were first sold, not by their actual model year.
Your 1977, if it sat on the lot thru 12/31/1977, could have been registered as a 1978.
D80 = C8000 Tilt Cab (diesel).
D (1976/79) = Caterpillar model V225-3208 636 cid V8 diesel.
D (1978/79) = Cummins model KT540 1150 cid 6 cylinder diesel.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
O66715 = 1977.
1977 serial number range: O05,001-O99,999 & X80,001-Z25,001.
1978 serial number range: AA5,001-CJ5,000.
You can get a copy of the original build sheet (and etc) from martiauto.com as Marti has ALL the original FoMoCo records for 1967/79 FoMoCo vehicles.
FoMoCo has none of this info any longer.
In the late 1980's, FoMoCo was planning to THROW AWAY all these records. Kevin Marti, a Mustang/Shelby "nut" in Phoenix AZ found out, and got ALL of it.
There is a fee for the build sheet, known within the hobby as a "Marti Report."
