I was very careful when I installed the stock gaskets. Pulled everything down very evenly starting in the center. I don't think it's the gaskets, yet. The dual kit I bought had very cheesy flares on the ends of the pipe. I had to cut/weld the pipes to get them to line up enough to actually cover the header completely. It would have really leaked had I not. I think that is the issue right now.
thought id throw my 2c in. ive had summit headers on 2 different vehicles which both burned out gaskets quick. even aftermarket gaskets. found them to have sharp edges where they meet the gasket and didnt seal well. a grinder and 20 minutes fixed that though.
Ya, not bad. I think mine was $175?(CRS, was only a couple months ago).
Any kind of warranty?
I wanted my to last a few years, so I took the plunge. Still cheaper then stainless steel version. I was happy with them.
Got a few leaks I need to chase down. Not really bad, just a couple tics. I think it is the ball/cup area, not the paper gaskets.
No warranty. I think I may just have them done. After I get done paying to have them blasted, then paint, plus my time, $150 doesn't seem that bad.

I noticed that too. I'm going to clean them up a little before blasting/coating.
I haven't installed mine yet, but I've heard a truck with them, and a stock exhaust. Slightly louder, but not much.
As for performance, Pacesetter claims a mild increase in tq and hp, though I'm not planning on being able to feel it on the butt dyno. I mainly got mine because they were cheaper than replacement manifolds.
Gotta say, I don't really feel any increase in performance. I run true duals with turbo mufflers, as I don't want it to be stupid loud(get'n too old for that crap). It almost lost some low end grunt(off idle), but does feel a bit peppy'r over 3000 rpm(which I don't see often).
Never really cared for the way Ford built this motor/powerband/etc. Guess it has to fit the 99 percenters. Maybe it has more to due with the POS AOD transmission? I really hate the way it works/shifts. Just never in the right gear when you want it to be. Just another reason why everything else I own has a third pedal in it!!
Still tracking down some leaks. Mostly I think it's the ball/cup going to the downpipes. The dual kit I bought doesn't have alot of "cup" and was concerned before I even did the project. Just retightened everything this morning and will find out if it is better. Not horrible, but noticable "tic" under heavy load.
Well, it's better. Got out there and tightened up ball/socket bolts(they were a touch loose), and it definitely got better. Still a slight tic on drivers side and I think it is the socket area. It was wet out, so I didn't dig very deep. Maybe this week I'll crawl up there and look at it better. At least it's not as obnoxious as it was. I knew by looking at the parts I would have issues.

What you're experiencing there is the effects of improved exhaust scavenging and the upside is it will allow the motor to handle more ignition advance, so you should be able to gain back the lost throttle tip-in TQ and improve overall power with a little tweak of the distributor.

Ha.. sounds like my fleet.. the only vehicle I have with an auto is my truck. And yeah the AOD is a clunky old box and some copies are worse than other, the one in my '89 was a beauty it shifted very cleanly and was always right where you needed it but the one in my '90 is sluggish to downshift and I find myself getting impatient with it fairly regularly.. which leads to a lot of flooring.. which puts the cammed 5.0 right into it's happy place and that always puts a smile on my face and makes me forget about the transmission.
Ya, might look into bumping the timing. It was horrible before as I tried to sneak it up to 10-12* and it would rattle itself to death on the highway(at cruise speed). I didn't know it til I was along a jersey barrier with window down and heard this weird rattl'n. I lifted throttle and it went away. Wouldn't really hear it inside the truck even with windows up and radio off. I kept bumping it back(to near stock) and I run 89 oct fuel as I knew 87 would be worse. Don't want to pay stupid money for Premium for a daily driver. I have to spend that on all the rest of the fleet!
Worst thing with AOD is not being able to hold 2nd gear. My '95 at least had the button and you could manually shift it, sorta. The AOD blows through 2nd too quick and then you find it downshifting trying to get moving again after going around a turn. Even with 3.55 gears.
Well, put 2* in it last night. 10* initial now. I could feel the difference this morning, it definitely helped, though I'll have to wait to see how it responds on the highway. That was the issue before. Around town was never a problem.
I was skeptical about the exhaust and if it would actually make a noticable difference. If I can get away with bumping the timing, it will be a surprise.
Hopefully the timing works out for you. I run my 95 at about 14*, along with an MSD coil, cap, rotor, and Ford Motorsport 9mm wires. Gapped the plugs at .055 (I think). The "six litre tune up" everyone talks about. I definitely noticed a difference, and no pinging.
I was able to run my '95 higher also(like 12-14) without issue. I think the older set ups are a bit more cranky and don't take to advancing timing much. It's a good solid running motor(128K miles) with fresh tune up(good parts), but just doesn't run as well as the '95 did.
Hopefully the timing is doable. Have to get some time to take a run up the highway this weekend to see.
