First off I have a 1995 7.5 F350 I finally got my motor back from the machine shop and got everything in. While I was at it I put a set of headman headers on it the problem I am having is the driver side. I ran the first set of gaskets that came with the headers for about 500 miles and they started leaking so I had a set that came with the rebuild kit and installed them they started leaking almost immediately. I know the factory manifolds use no gaskets and I was wondering if y’all have tried running these without any gasket.
Some headers are actually made to use no gaskets, but I'm pretty sure they are few and far between. After your leaky experiences though, I know I'd be tempted to try it anyway!
I think the issue with most would be the narrow sealing band of material present on most header flange designs. Just don't know how well it would pull up tight against the head. I'm sure any header can be smoothed down on that surface to be perfectly flat. I just don't know the answer to how well it would seal over the long haul.
We had good luck with the Percy's brand too when we sold them. I don't remember any negative feedback at all, which is pretty good these days.
There is also a high-temp exhaust sealant that might make a header-to-head seal without a gasket even better, but I don't know it's properties as I have not used that either. Just lucky that I've never had the leaks.
Thanks for all the help I think I will try the Percy’s all I know is it is driving me crazy I got rid of the manifolds cause they leaked and snapped bolts maybe I will not regret not going with banks but after motor rebuild money was running thin
