I have a couple of questions......I am changing my egr cooler and oil cooler and coolant filter and doing blue spring upgrade on my 2005 f 250 with 100k miles on her. Should I flush the coolant 1st before repairs or after and should I stay with for gold or switch to Cat ecl,....She has been puffing white smoke .losing coolant and running rought till it gets warmed up in any weather ...is the running rough with no power for the 1 st mile or 2 part of the egr cooler problem or am I in for something else....hopefull the repairs go well ...i figure I can tackle them myself
thanks
ED
I would flush before doing the repair. Any trash knocked loose during flushing will end up in the old cooler instead of the new one.
Many trucks have went many miles on the Ford gold coolant. That being said, and after a bunch of reading, I put the CAT brand ELC in my truck.
Cold running issues could be injectors, stiction, FICM, or charging system but it could be related to the cooler issues. I would finish the coolers and see how it does afterward.
Good luck with it!
thanks so much ,I going to start flushing this weekend ,waiting for my package from Sinister and hopefully get it all put in with no probs. I really think I am going to switch it over to CAT ELC , I picked up 2 jugs of VC9 to flush with,...........just worried about the running rough at start up...will see what happens
