E-250 died..where to start?
I have a high-mileage 1992 E-250 (4.9). It has been starting fine and running OK for its age but this weekend I started it and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, then as soon as I put it in reverse the engine immediately died and would not restart. Starter is reving fine but engine not even thinking about firing up. I keep this van at a family member's house and I did not have time to do any proper diagnosis, and won't till this weekend. First thing I will check is is the engine getting any spark (I am assuming it is not). While I am aware that the condition could be caused by a large number of items, what I am asking for is would anyone suggest the most likley place to start, assuming there is no spark? Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, I'll certainly consider that in the diagnosis should I actually be getting spark. It does make me wonder though as over the years I've had plenty of engines quit due to fuel starvation (including dead fuel pumps) but there was always a bit of a "stutter" before the engine actually quit..that didn't happen with this. It just quit immediately and abruptly when I put it in reverse. That is why in my mind I was thinking some sort of relay went kaput.........................
