instrument cluster bulbs

Does anyone know what watt the instrument cluster light bulbs are? I havent taken it out to see but I was in the parts store today and noticed that they had 3 or 4 different watts. If anyone knows let me know so I can buy some before I take it out. Thanks.

Consider changing just the two back lighting bulbs to LEDs, It'll brighten up the cluster nicely. You'll have to make sure they light up before you button it back up though since LEDs have a polarity. If they don't light up remove the bulb holder and reinstall it turned 180 degrees.

The part stores charge ridiculous prices for bulbs. $5 for two? Really? I got a box of 10 for $2.30 (cost) from a commercial lightbulb salesperson (Dad's gf )

parts store wanted $14 for 2. bought 20 for $9 on ebay with free shipping, had enough to do all of the cluster lights, heater controls, and side marker lights on my '78 and dad's 79. came from hong kong but so did the ones from O'Rip-off. amazing how much brighter they are, can even tell that they are on in the day time

Y'all are paying waaay too much for 194 bulbs. Even if you buy from a local Ford dealer without the FTE discount price, the cost will still be under a buck each.

And...you won't have to pay any shipping charges.

C2AZ-13466-C .. 194 Bulb / Available from Ford / MSRP each: $0.80 // FTE sponsor tousleyfordparts.com price each: $0.53.

And now we all know, thanks ND. Usually the dealership is the last place one thinks to go for parts, due to cost.

I learned that when I had to get some work done on the wife's Expedition, now I always at least give the dealership shop a price ck call.

I don't think the cost has much to do with it. Is 80 cents for a 194 bulb too much? Hell no, it's cheap considering what chain autoparts stores are asking.

Everyday I read at least one thread in the 1980 and later forums where someone is searching for a certain part.

And what I find amazing is, most of these peeps don't think to go to their local Ford dealers. Who made/sold the parts originally, FoMoCo, or some chain autoparts store?

And that's where most of them go, even if looking for a part like a dash bezel or a bumper bracket that no chain autoparts store carries.

Then their lament is: Waaa, boo-hoo, ma-ma, oh woe is me, I can't find it.

Like I said, I believe most people associate the dealership with the highest price for getting work done on a truck, so they think parts would be the same.....

FTE has at least four Ford Dealer parts dept sponsors that give parts discounts off the actual MSRP. The discount varies from source to source of between cost + 10% to 23% off MSRP.

How many members think to use these sponsors? How many even know about them? Sponsors are listed at the top of each page. How many members even look there?

Then there are the repro parts seller sponsors. Usually non FTE sponsor LMC is recommended first (why I dunno, must be because they sell cheap made in China crap), but who sponsors many of the forums peeps type in?

Blue Oval Truck Parts. How many peeps recommend them? Very few, because most are unaware even though their "click on" banner ad is next to each forum when you scroll down.

I tell folks about the sponsors at the top all the time and I recommend who I have used.

JBG, NPD, DC and LMC, but they (LMC) are always last on the list for obvious reasons.

So explain to me again, so it is crystal clear, Ford dealerships parts depts give a FTE member discount? Or only certain ones? I know you said 4, who are they?

4 FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsors. Here are 3, I've forgotten who the 4th is, I think it's in MA

horizonpartsguy.com listed top of page as partsguyed.com = Horizon Ford Truck Center, Seattle (Tukwila) WA

tousleyfordparts.com = Tousley Ford, White Bear Lake MN

silverstatefordparts.com = Gaudin Ford, Las Vegas NV

The only one I've bought from (cargo liner for an Edge) is horizon aka partsguyed, as Ed and I are longtime pals. Ed was a p/m here in LA LA Land before moving to WA

Ed suffered a stroke (is 15 years younger than I and never smoked) 1/2011, was forced to quit the biz. Wyatt @ Horizon is now handling FTE orders.

I also know the p/m at Gaudin, as he was once the p/m of a L/M dealer here in LA LA Land. Dunno anyone at Tousley.

I haven't a clue since there's no Ford part number for LED related parts that weren't available back then.
