It's more of a "up and down hopping vibration" like you mentioned, FORDF250HDXLT.
That, to me, indicates something is severely out of balance or bent. Can you check you axle shafts at the flange where the studs are? The slightest bend in the flange or axle shaft would shake the whole truck pretty violently.
Click on the images to check out some video I took today w/ rear axle on stands:
That noise sure doesn't sound good when I hit the brakes. I'm assuming it's because the driveshaft is too short? This has got to be why it is shaking....
No, had to get a different rear driveshaft because the 4x4 place around here would not shorten my 2wd aluminium driveshaft. So they made me a new one, 52" from center of u-joint to center of u-joint. Obviously not long enough....
The driveshaft shop guy said I need at least 2 inches of free play if I plan to do any off-roading, etc. That 2 inches of slack must be too much...
Instead of paying about $300~ for a new one, I found one on eBay off a truck with the same configuration as mine, same trans, etc. and it is 1 1/4" longer. So from u-joint to u-joint it's 53 1/4" then the yoke will only be sticking out of the seal 3/4". He only wants a little over $100 w/ shipping.
Unless someone can convince me that the driveshaft isn't the problem..
I agree, but it almost sounds like the dreaded "Death Wobble". Violent cab shaking.....?
i don't think so,cus iv seen the vids of that happening.that's far beyond a vibration, and there is no way it can be mistaken as to if it's the front or rear.
that there shakes the steering wheel very violently and it looks extremely unsafe.if that was going on,he'd know it. http://youtu.be/PSDBCV-gcs8
Haha no way I do not have the death wobble. It is an annoying shake, but not nearly as bad as the above video.
Brad do you think if I got the 53 1/4" driveshaft that it would resolve the issue? There would only be 3/4" of the yoke sticking out past the tailshaft seal.
One, that guy who continued to drive with that death wobble is a TOOL.
Two, Minnesota how much of the yolk goes into the transfer case? If you dod not have enough in there, there will be no support and the shaft will slop around and cause a vibration
I am not sure how long the slip yoke on the front driveshaft is. It's the same yoke off my old 2wd driveshaft, had the shop switch it over to the new one. Can't pull the driveshaft to measure the yoke right now since the truck isn't here, but I would say 5-6 inches?
So there is probably only 3-4 inches in the back of the transfer case.
I think I'm just going to order this "new" driveshaft, swap it in there, and see if it solves the problem.
