Carb to EFI
has anyone swapped the 1bbl carb off the 300 I6 to an EFI system? my carb is giving me fits, and instead of replacing it with another one, i am trying to find out how hard it would be to install EFI. i know i would have to change out the fuel pump, intake, and exhaust but would it work with my current ignition syste or would it have to be upgraded as well? i'm not looking for a whole lot of power, i'm just a lot more familiar with EFI than i am with carbs.
i have swapped the TBI system out for an MPFI system on my Cavalier so i know what i am getting myself into. and i am VERY pleased at the results of that swap so i can just imagine what i would get on this motor!

If I were you I would get a bigger carburator from Clifford Performance. If not hell just grab an EFI off of a later year (90'-96') and slap it on. I don't think you would have much of a problem. That would be a nice thing to gloat about if you can do it. If you do so I'm sure you will definitely get better mpg and ponies and torque.

Guessing here, but didnt the 87's have FI? If they did, you could find a Donor and make the swap, and still pass emissions.
When I had my 78, I had a dream of fitting the FI from some V-6 onto my engine. I was looking for 15 Mpg or better and instantanous starting. The Emissions referee told me it wouldnt pass, because they had no program in the Computer to test it.
Speed aint all that important, there were Snails on board the Ark, along with the Cheetas!

i believe you are right. 87 i think was the first year for FI on the 300 I6. if the rain ever stops and i have a chance i am going to head out to one of my local pick and pulls to see what i can find. i'm currently getting between 10-13 mpg in town with the carb running too rich. it used to get 15-16 in town and 18-20 on the highway. i'm hoping for a little improvement in mileage, but mainly i don't want to have to worry about the crappy 1 bbl carb messing up. and of course, fast starts are always a nice side effect!

Carb to EFI
Ok, So If I am building an engine for street/strip speed (not totally raced out though) would it be better to go carb or EFI? I want to do some type of turbo/supercharging for that burst of speed. I have an edelbrock 4bbl 600cfm on the truck now.

Carb to EFI
Definatley stay with a carb unless you are willing to go with a custom computer, the stocker is very limited, and nearly any performance modifactions will put your engine outside of it's parameters.
