Hello, new to the diesel forum. Was driving my 2002 excursion 7.3 yesterday and it just shut down. Will crank over but not start. the coil light comes on but will not go off. I am thinking maybe a crankshaft position sensor of fuel pump. Could someone give me a hint where i might find the sensor.
Hi Bob, Welcome to our gang. Sounds like a cps. Its located to the left of the crank pulley, 10mm bolt as I remember. Pretty easy to change. Just clean the area before removing. Unplug the wires and gently pull out. Replace with a ford or IH part. Lube the o-ring and reinstall. A lot of us put some dielectric grease on the plug. Whats a coil lite? Is the oil full?
Coil light ?
Does the tac move when cranking ?
Do you have a wait to start light ?
Can you hear the fuel pump ?
Did it die like you turn off the key or like it ran out if fuel ??
Thanks for the quick response. I guess what i call a coil light is a wait to start light or glow plug light. It died while running. but not like running out of gas, just stoped running. No stalling or spuddering.
thanks again. I am having a little problem locating the sensor. so far i got front left side by crank pully. Is there wires coming from it and is it easy to spot?
