Ok...I really need to rebuild the 302 in my F-150. I want to get a little more power out of it. Enough to counteract the 33's and 3.55 gears that i'm running now, but i'd prefer the speed density didn't freak out...
I figure a set of heads, a cam and headers should give me enough power...
I've found the cam, a comp cams 31-255-5
How about a set of GT40 P heads? Are they S.D. "friendly"? I only ask b/c there's good deals on them on eBay.
Jon,
I just picked up the GT-40 (Aluminum) heads, a CompCam 268H series cam/lifter kit for my 302. The difference between the two heads is that the "p" is cast iron. What are the intake/exhaust #'s on the "p" head you're looking at? I was going to go with 2.02/1.60 but was advised that unless the lower end can handle it, the 2.02 would be too much. So, I took the advice and went with 1.90/1.54 intake/exhaust respectively. The headers should marry up to the head just fine. The exhaust ports are in the same place as OEM, the head is just worked a little more to make the motor breathe better (always the pitfall of the OEM 302 heads).
Hope this helps, and hope you got a good price on the "p" heads. They're not available anymore through Summit, Jegs, etc.
Thank Daryl!
I didn't know what the "P" meant, but I'd rather have the iron heads anyway... They're 1.84 intake 1.46 exhaust... The auction hasn't ended yet--I wanted to make sure I could use them before I put down the $$$
