I have already bought gt-40 iron heads heads and am planning on installing them with 1.6 rockers, planning on intalling shorty headers and an exhaust, will port match the stock intake, and installing a k&N system. No new cam, no I am not changing intake upper/lower/TB or to MAF, no it is not a lightning.
Questions/suggestions:
1. Will I need a reprogrammer to make speed density work with this?
2. I would like a superchips microtuner but do they make one for the non-lightning 5.8.
3. Will I need new pushrods to make the gt-40's install?
4. How much hp over stock will these mods get me?
5. suggestions?
1.No
2.What computer does your truck have?Have you considered a EEC tuner or Tweecer?
3.No
4.Id guess 45-60 horsepower
5.Id go with 1.72 cobra roller rockers with some matching valvesprings if you're not changing cams
tuner chips are limited for speed density rigs. i would highly suggest a cam for your application since your doing this work. 35-255-5 is a compcam and great setup.
a tweecer will not work unless you have mass air.
My background is with a 95 lightning. 93-95 lightnings are speed density. Tweecers are what the guys with those year lightnings use. Would a tweecer help me tune the vehicle like a superchips microtuner does for newer vehicles. Or would it just give me a million options and not help me make the best choices?
Does superchips make a microtuner for the 95 351? They offer a blue chip or something like that but I do not know what it does.
I have no experience with eec reprogrammers, chips, tweecers or anything of the sort. I am not even sure what the terminology means. But I am a fast study and would like to know what my best bet would be for more hp, firmer shifts, rev limiter raising, speed limiter raising, etc...
The Tweecer/EEC tuner does work with speed density(I've been using one for over a year now). Its can pretty much change anything you want it to change timing curve, fuel curve, shift points, converter lockup, speed limiter, turn emmisions sensors off, plus hundreds of other features. It has a steep learning curve though and it took me awhile befor i was confident enough to hook it up and start messing with stuff.
As far as the microtuner goes find out what computer your truck has and email or call superchip.
Another option is the Superchip custom tuner its a setup like the tweecer, but its supposed to be more user friendly it also costs allot more though.
Should be a sticker in the drivers side door jam(Thats how it is with Lightnings anyways). If that don't work Remove the drivers side kick panel and then 3ea 1/2" nuts to remove the E-brake then it puts you in full view of the J3 port. There should be a metal cover over the J3 door with your computer code on it.
