I had to push my luck didnt I? Posting about how happy I was with my truck purchase.......
I have been trying to check all the problem areas to catch any little issues before they become big issues.
1st towing trip yesterday with the truck, and lets just say I have an issue. Coolant pukes out the degas with the cold level below the min line by 1/2in. I only noticed a slight hissing from the degas bottle before, and very slight coolant around lip.
Also, I drove it saturday night to pick up trailer, parked it around 7pm, then sunday morn I pulled cap to check level, and it still had noticeable pressure.
I had checked my deltas before I bought truck, but after reading more on the site, I realized I didnt do them correctly.
Also, I did a chem test on the truck to check for bad head gasket, and that checked out fine, no color change.
Any ideas on where to go from here?
there was a recall on the degas bottle fluid level. it wasnt anything special. they put a sticker on it and the old minimum mark is now the full mark. also, get a new cap. that could be the problem. if u want to really be sure. get at least a 20psi pressure gauge and T into the overflow hose coming off the bottle and run it to the gauge. get it fully warmed up and go and got out and make some WOT runs. if it gets over 16psi then ur head gaskets are blown
I know I need to do a coolant flush, hence having to pull the cap to check level, and I plan on deleting the egr and egr cooler. I was just hoping to do them when I do the head studs and cooler come tax season. Looks like I may be doing some things sooner than others.
local dealer just dropped off new cap. going on tonite. Can anyone help me locate a pdf for the egr cooler delete? I have been searching all morning for one. I want to get my ducks in a row before I tear into this beast. I have til thursday to diagnose, then about a month to figure out what to do. (Hernia getting fixed Friday).
Thanx
I put coolant level to 1/2in below "new" min line, installed new oem degas cap, and grabbed the scanner and went for a ride.got it nice and warm on way to freeway. Got on freeway and got to 75 and left cruise on for ten miles. Ect was around 176 and eot was right around 200 to 210. Not good?
Got off freeway and drove it like i stole it. Pulled into restaurant and checked overflow. Very little coolant. Good?
ECT is too cold. You have a bad T-stat.
The nice thing is that is an easy fix.
Good luck with the surgery. I have back
surgery on the 27 of Nov. Not looking forward
to that. But after ......
I thought the ECT was too low. New tstat is on the way and will install tonight. I forgot to check the cold temps this morning, so I will do that when I get home first thing.
I have been using my solus scanner to monitor the ECT and EOT readings while driving.
The ECT never went over 184 with my foot in it.
Did I do the delta test wrong. When I got to work this morning I reread the tsb and it said wide open throttle after warm up. I thought I had read on here it was supposed to be on a level surface at 75 mph for some distance?
Either way, I will try both tonight.
some great reading. I have a question about the Degas cap so If I go to Ford they will have another. I called and its like only 14.25 so the new one or is it a special one that i should ask for? or is it a OEM product.
and Still run the coolant at the MAX level too I take it.
