You may have to notch the holes in your TPS if it's not adjustable. I hear .98 is good.

ok, i am a dummy, i have been thinkin' that this piece i got is the actual sensor itself, what i have installed is the throttle position response calibrator, it plugs in right below (duh lol) the throttle body, geeze, no wonder the guys at oreilly looked at me like a i was a retard, lmao! ...so ok, i adjust this outfit where? lol, i may just unhook the damn thing and give it back to my buddy lol

are you refering to the temp. sensor? it's just below and to the right of the throttle body. It screws into a connector on the intake manifold. the TSP has 2 screws.,of which you can't get to unless you remove the throttle body. (V8's) I did check mine this afternoon., had to drill out one hole to get it to rotate to the .98/.99. But max voltage was about 4.3. Should be a bit higher. Didn't drive it around. Was getting late. Will try it out in the morning.

The computer is just looking for a level here. There really is no adjustment required. Each time you start your engine the computer uses the current throttle position as the reference (idle) position. This is one reason the owner's manual advises us to start our trucks with your foot off the throttle petal. If there is a bad spot on the potentiometer the input to the computer will spike or go to zero causing the engine to surge or die. Then it's time to change out the TPS, otherwise drive on and leave it alone. Also, each time one performs the wide open throttle (WOT) test the computer recalibrates the bottom and top of the potentiometer but usually the original factory calibration will last for the life of the TPS. If you do change out your TPS remember to perform the WOT test.

correct TPS adjustment

I'd like to add alittle. I set my tps to .99 after talking with some Mustang guys. It seemed to give me alittle more power, but theres no way to really tell. What I could tell was I was getting alittle worse gas milage. I wasn't really sure why until I installed an air/fuel ratio gauge. I could watch my comp switch out of closed loop with the slightest throttle pressure. Meaning it would go to rich instead of running off the o2 sensor. I wasn't really sure why, so I did some digging. What was happening was, when the computer sees between 2.7 and 2.8 volts coming from the tps, it switches out of closed loop. That is way before wot. I tuned the idle volts down to .90 and now I have to give more throttle to get it to come out of closed loop. I didn't really notice a loss in power by doing it, but my fuel economy came back to where it was, actually alittle better. I also noticed it is not as likely to shift out of overdrive now. I hope this all makes sense.

Ok so for driving around today i left the maf unplugged, so it would run a tad richer rathet than risk cooking a cylinder running it as lean as i was. So anway WOW what a difference. Stays in overdrive much better and has a ton more power. Definately running rich, can smell gas in exaust and fuel mileage was horrible lol but oh well itl be better in a few days. Thanks for all of the help so ar guys i should be able to test/adjust the tps tomorrow but definately wednesday while the weather is nice here in va.

Also i noticed a while back a large split around the mouth of the air duct where it attaches to the throttle body. It looks like it still seals well around the throttle body but im going to spray some carb cleaner around there tomorrow to see if its suckin in some unwanted air. Again thanks for all the help everybody.

Explain the WOT test ?? How do you perform the test/calibration ?

The jist is, the computer does the "calibrating" if you have a OBS after like 1991 or somewhere near there. as in, as long as your throttle body is not messed up, and your sensor is correct, you can have a LOT of values as min/max and they will work because the computer figures out quickly on its own what each are. carry on.
