Hey guys, I have a 2000 excursion PSD 4x4 and would like to run my stereo system out of my old car in it...It doesn't consist of anything special, a single 10" MTX in a ported box and a 1000W Kenwood amp to power it. For the amp location i have chosen underneath the middle row, more specifically, the left/middle seats in the middle row. Now this is where i begin to run into issues, there is a metal bar that runs from one side of the seat to the other, i would like to get this bar out of the way, but realized its rivited in with some fairly large rivits. Does this bar provide any structual integrety to the seat? If people have taken this bar out in the past, what is the easiest way to go about removing the bar.
Now my 2nd issue i'm currently having (not really an issue) I need to find a way to route my 4 gauge cable from my batteries (preferably left side) into the cabin of the X, i've done some research and seen a grommet to the left of the steering column, Now i'm not sure if its because i have a canadian truck or not, but my firewall is covered in an insulation and i can't see behind it to know if there is infact a grommet there in mine or not...if anyone has any insight on this it would be great before i go drilling new holes that i may not need to do.
Thanks in advance everyone, this forum is a great help and a great resource for DIYers
Get a couple of metal blocks to raise the amp off the floor and above that bar. You only need 1/2" or so. This will also allow more airflow as well as get the amp off the warm floor.
If you pull back the carpet you'll see a lot of holes all over the floor for routing cables. Just run the wires under the cabin. Be sure and add fuses on both wires at the battery! If the battery->ground cable gets corroded or comes loose you will have a lot of amps flowing through that wire and your sound gear when you start the truck.
Thanks for your reply Gene, I never even thought about going over the bar, thanks for giving me another option to look at. Also, if i understand correctly, you're saying run the cable from the battery, to a fuse, to under the truck, down possibly a frame rail, back into the truck through the floor boards? Interesting thats another thing i haven't thought of doing with the X (i've always managed to go through the firewall and just found it safer) I'm gonna have to go outside and toy around with these ideas and see if i can plan a nice easy route for my wires.

I've always ran mine through the firewall and its better protected that way. and there is a sort of troth that runs along under the door sills that works great. as for getting it through the firewall there is a giant opening on the drivers side (its covered in a sort of acoustical foil). you can poke a hole in it and you are through.

Thanks for the reply, My buddy came over last night that owns a 2002 SD and he knew exactly where the hole in the firewall was, so he cut a small slit in the insulation and voila there it was, so i have the power cable ran into the cab, and for now just have all the wiring ran directly (had a few friends out and it was getting late, wanted to see what it would sound like) but i still have to actually route the wires along the interior and hide them all. I'm going to be doing that sometime this week, so will defiantly have to try and look into tucking the wires under the door sills...thanks for the tip
