Hi all bought a SG 2 and trying to find prob with it.Have most PIDs entered. It dosen't show any faults/codes and have been watching different gauges.Guess im not sure what to look for? My 6.0 is an 04 w/torque shift. It started about 3 weeks ago. When at 65-70 mph it seems to skip and if going up a long incline it starts cutting out badly,it never cuts out completely and it has a high pressure sound coming from the engine. Also when I let off the pedal it has almost a back fire sound, almost. The weird thing is ...it only every now and then. I drove 300 miles and it did it for 10 mins. Any Idea what to look for ?I changed all fuel & oil filters OEM.No change. Help please. Rick PS took it by Trans shop no codes except egr, which is unplugged.
Plug the EGR Valve Back in if it unplugged dwill affect the FAN and Cooling. Even when folks Do the EGR Deleate they deleate the cooler and stuff but leave the EGR Valve installed in the intake manafold and keep it plugged in it cant affect things when the exhaust gasses are blocked. It Keeps the PCM Happey and helps keep it out of Limp Mode
On to the problem Post these
ICP
ICPV
IPR%
Boost
Baro
MAP
EBP
MAFV
V-REF
VOLTS
FICM MP
FICM VP
FICM LP
OPERATING VALUES
Just make shure the numbers are taken exactly like this
Truck in PARK OR NEUTRAL all times during test
ECT at 190* or close to And EOT at 185* or higher
A/C OFF
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#1-------KOEO=Key On Engine Off =record value and POST IT!!
#2-------Low Idel (truck idel on its own)=record value and POST IT!!
#3-------High Idel (2500RPM)=record value and POST IT!!
if you dont have MAFV I can post it later also you may not have a MAF sensor either not shure when the change was but being an 04 could go either way
If the EGR sticks you will stumble and blow black smoke under acceleration. A hissing noise could be a hole in one of the charge air boots. Once you chop the throttle or under load, lift on the go pedal, the built up pressure will escape through the intake since you have no blow off valve.
One other scenario, if the turbo over boosts, it will fart or cough on you also.
Thanks for the help Benny.....Sorry for the delay in posting ...work has been a Bear. Looking forward for your Info. Rick.
Your symtoms to me sound like injector or FICM
the FICM Value in red is Close 45volts the cutoff
Go Take a Drive and go where you know it will cutout sounds like under Load so a Hill get up to temp and make it cut out and Watch FICM MP see how low it drops
Watch volts and all the FICm numbers
Im thinking your FICM could be taking a Dive Under LOAD
Thanks Benny ,will do tomor. and post results. And Rosted7 would the crack have any oil near? I looked today..didn't see anything.Any certain procedure to find???Thanks Rick.

Usually the hissing sound you described seems to turn out to be a leak in a CAC boot or you degas bottle relieving excess pressure.
There could be oil around the leak if it's been there for a while. A very small leak in a boot may only actually leak under higher pressures such as when you're climbing a hill.
I only know of a visual check. You'll have to look underneath and on the back side for any signs of wear. Might need a mirror if you don't take it off.
Still, it could be popping open. Some have welded the valve closed.
My truck would cut out randomly when empty. When towing, it would do it more. Especially up grades. My wife called it woofing. Puff of black smoke would happen. Couldn't get SGII to pick anything up. Step on throttle, and raise RPMS, would go away.
Was suggested to do the following:
Clean MAP sensor and tube
Clean EBP sensor and tube
Clean EGR valve
Check FICM readings
Did all those things, didn't help. I figured it had to be the EGR valve.
While on a trip, stopped by a Ford dealer and picked one up. Put it in that night. No more woofing.
Just because we clean an EGR valve, doesn't necessarily mean it isn't failing.
Of course, we can screw it up while cleaning by getting fluids in those 2 little holes!!!
Well I took out the egr and cleaned....not to gunked up.Went for a 30 mile trip with lots of hills while watching all the volts of the FICM and while under load uphill my FMP dropped to 44.5 V. = not good from my understanding, but the problem didn't happen??? Neither did the hissing??? So.....got in touch with Ed and am on the list for a replacement. Will keep ya posted. And thanks ALL. Rick
Hi all, well I got a rebuilt FICM with an Eco tune from Ed@ficm. on the exchange program. The removal & install wasn't too tough except ford engineers need to install one of these sometime. HA! Anyway i have driven about 600 miles without an issue. No skip, no hissing. Volts stayed at 47.5. So I must Thank Benny (Thanks Benny) and all the others for the help in figuring this out. Thank You. I also got the Blue spring upgrade from Ed. Also Ed is a good guy...lots of info, and easy to work with,I will HIGHLY recommend him for anything related to FICM repair or upgrades. ed@ficmrepair.com
