fuel question
fuel question
on my e350, the FSV was bad, transferring fuel from one tank to the other while driving, so i needed to replace it.
i went with the standard universal one because the OEM unit cost $350 from the dealership and didn't appear to be available anywhere else.
while installing it, i noticed that the paperwork with it said "warranty void unless filters installed before valve", so i looked on the shelf and found a couple of clear plastic filters commonly used on carbureted trucks and installed those a few inches before the valve. so far so good, but should i be worried about these filters, is there something better i should put in there, or should i just say screw it and take them out?

Diesel is thicker than gas, and tends to gel as the temp goes down. I don't know if that's an issue for filters made for gas, but it might be... Hopefully someone with experience will chime in.
that viscosity is exactly why i was concerned, but figured i may as well give it a shot. if one clogs up, i'll switch tanks until i have a good place where i can go deal with it.
i remember linus (member here) tried a filter from a 460 gasser to cope with the gunk in his tank, and had it plug up quickly, but thats because he had gunk to worry about. my tanks are clean and run 75%+ #2 with the rest being a WMO blend that does contain some gasoline, and as such isn't too thick.
i'll post back if i have trouble with them, if nothing else to save someone else the trouble

well its been 1000 miles since the install, and one of them seemed to plug up yesterday. but it opened back up after i filled the tank with fresh fuel.
when it clogged i was going up a hill i usually take at 70+, but i lost much of my power and climbed the hill at 40 with it floored and no smoke.
today i've been running on that tank (and filter) with no trouble. i'm wondering if my WMO mix was too thick for the filter at these temperatures. i'll keep playing with it and keep y'all posted
