Spark Plugs
I replaced the plugs with NGK's. I've always had good luck with them in other engines, including small engines, Chevy and ( lawnmowers, chain saws ect.)
Is the NGK a good plug for this motor ? Is there a better type ?
I am having an issue with my MPG, but I'm pretty sure that is coming from the 150lb. elec. mobility device (scooter) carrier the VA had installed on my class 4 hitch. When it's not in use, the platform, folds up to the rear hatch about 24" from the hatch. I think the wind coming off the roof is getting caught between the hatch and scooter platform. I did notice a large drop in mileage right after the install. I recently drove from St. Louis to Kokomo IN and back. I had a very large hard shell cargo carrier on the luggage rack and noticed that even loaded down and with the scooter on back that my mileage went back up.
Prior to the carrier being installed, I was getting almost 21 MPG highway, after the install it dropped to 18 MPG, with the cargo carrier on the rack and loaded down it went back up to 20 MPG.
The shop that did the install told me that because it's rated at max load 500lb., it falls under a DOT reg. and is not to be removed or detached.
Any input would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Tom
Yes, NGK should be fine, but stock is manufactured by Autolite, and the OE plugs are hard to beat.
I've had the Explorer 3 months now and it's due for an oil change and I will have the NGK's removed and have whatever plug is listed under the hood installed. I was told that would be my best choice.
I do appreciate you response, This is why I like FTE.
Thank you,
Tom
