Computer Questions...
2. Will a ECU/TCU from a 92 F150 4x4 E4OD 5.0 swap with the computer of a 95 F150 4x4 E4OD 5.8?
3. If the answer is no, can you please explain why? I'm going for the transmission controls more than anything here, the engine runs great, transmission shifts hard if you remember my posts about that situation...
Thanks in Advance, hope to hear a good reply soon so I can swap this thing over ASAP
P.S. if the 92 can go into the 95, will I be able to put the 95 into the 92?
2. It will swap as long as they are both MAP or MAF systems. Both systems use different harnesses and sensors as well as different programming. They have to be the same type or its not plug-n-play. The 5.8 won't be at full potential though because the 5.0 ECU is tuned for the smaller engine.
I don't think the 5.8 ECU will work too well in the 5.0. From what I read on other sites, it will make the 5.0 run rich most if not all of the time. Don't trust that fully though, as I'm not entirely sure myself.
The 1992 PCM Computer does not have the damper diodes for the transmission in it but the 1995 PCM Computer does have them inside.
The 1992 computers chips will fail from spikes and ringing.
The 1992 E4OD has the damper diodes mounted on the solenoid pack inside the transmission and the 1995 E4OD does not.
Also the 1992 PCM Computer is a "Push Start" Computer and the 1995 PCM Computer is a CCD Computer so it is not compatible with the Ignition system. So the Ignition system will have to be rewired to the starter solenoid and the Ignition Coil to work right.
As said above the Injector pulse time will be too short for the 5.8L engine also so there will be a lack of power.
Reason I ask is because all my problems have come down to the ECM/TCU getting warm. I can drive around all day in cooler weather without the heater on and not a single problem. If i turn the heater on, once the cab warms up and the blower is on "mix" it allows the computer to warm up and once that warms up, everything with my transmission problems go to crap. Shut the truck off, open the windows, let it all cool off inside and away I go with no problems again.
Is there any other way or location I can put this thing or anything I can do to keep it cool? I hate to buy a new one and it do the same thing just because it got "hot" too....
