I have a 2000 F250 with a 5.4 that is having some issues. First I noticed the last few weeks that if I drive for over an hour the truck delvelops a miss and has no power above 1500rpms but if I pull over turn off the truck and immediately restart the truck it is fine for another hour. I just assumed it was a bad coil, mass air flow sensor, or worse case the computer acting up. Then last night I got gas on my way home at not the best gas station and shortly after word my truck started missing and running terrible. But I can restart it and it will instantly run good for about 2-4mins before running bad. Now I think its a weak fuel pump or a dirty fuel filter but I still dont understand why I can restart it after it dies and its ok for a fuel mins and it always idles fine.
Any ideas? The truck is in really good shape but has almost 200k on it so I dont want to throw money at it
I'm a boat mechanic so I can handle most of the work unless you need a programmer but its also my crazy time of the year.
kind of an old thread....wondering what you found? Guessing the fuel pump and filter. That would explain the running good at start up for just a few minutes. Has good pressure built up until it "needs" gas, then can't get enough....just wondering.
I am having the same problem with my 99 f 250 5.4 it will run good for a fee weeks then all of a sudden it will run like crap as soon as I pull over shut it off and restart it. Its fine for a bit. I already changed all the coils and plugs and changed the fuel filter and scanned it and replaced the oxagen senser still no change. I am going to check the fuel pressure next and also check for bad grounds good luck with yours
