Joe, I ran these on a old Dodge crew cab I built in 96. They wear like erasers, and they're hard to balance. AND I WOULD NEVER RUN A 16.5 RIM AGAIN. basicly a tire rolling off the bead caused that truck to roll at 60mph and damn near killed my niece and broke my back. Run away or figure out some way to screw the rim to the tire
Barney
I have not ran the HMMV tires on my truck, but I have on my landcruiser and trail buggy. I wouldn't be opposed to them on my truck, but I have never found a deal like that on 16.5 wheels.
IIRC Jim, rat49f6 is running them on the HOE BS though.
The main reason I am thinking this is Toyo MT's are up to 417 each now...
I can pick up these wheels for $200, the tires for $400 and be in the whole set up for less then the cost of two new tires. If they dont work out, they can sit at home, I can use them on Chelseas Excursion for summer tires or resell them.
I have been told they wear like iron, maybe this is not true? Keep in mind these are not the old bias ply ones, these are a raidal...

I ran the radials also. take offs and brand new. Zero mileage and lots of weight to make them balance.
real loud also. had to rotate them every 5K to keep the noise down.
I would run them on a trail rig but never an a daily driver or something that someone I care about drives alot.
I don't know anything about the tires, but there are still a bunch of people around here running 16.5's even though its a dieing breed. The only people I've ever heard of having a bead come off the rim is rock crawlers and they air down to only a few psi. If you was concerned about beads you could always get some bead lock wheels with the rings...
I'd stay away from the tire. They bring the suck. They don't hook up on anything, wet or dry.
On the wheels, I see nothing saying they are 8x170 not 8x6.5. They appear to be American racing Outlaw II's. They are rated for around 3k a piece IIRC.
Joe, buddy ran them on his 01, for a few years. Bought the truck new. Towed a 30ft warrior during winter months to desert for those years. Traded truck in with tires/wheels still on. Ya, what Fife said, they're load, but man they looked sick.
When I had my Duratrac's mounted and balanced on new wheels, LS wanted $165 because it wasn't one of "their" product. I told em to pound salt, everyone else quoted me $20 a wheel...
I have these tires on my lifted obs and I love them
First the pros
They are cheap and readily avalible
Wear like steel (4k miles horribly unaligned at highway speeds just began to show wear)
Look great
D rated but rated for 3800# each
Cons
They are a little slick in the rain
And they are heavy as hell
They will show military tan paint they them if pressure washed...just spray paint black back over it
To adress the issue of a tire unbeading itself, like I think al said this is an issue when pressure is low. Once u see the lip on the wheel you will understand, its much more gradual than a lip on a 16" wheel
I have 4k miles on mine and I drive it daily, drive to rre on them and have had them up to 80+ mph. I used the airsoft balancing method and the only issue I have is a very slight bounce @ 65
