I had a VERY long day today. Got up early and found frost outside. Resumed search for a new vehicle while waiting for USAA to open. Called USAA to get approved for a loan...success. Went to Monaco, and saw nothing interesting(in my price range), then went up to Gengras Dodge to look at a 2007 f150 they had on the lot. Both bumpers were rotting through pretty severely, so I didn't even wait around to see if they would come down from their $23k price tag. Went over to Hoffman auto(Ford) to check out the 2013 Fusion they had on the lot. It was a pretty nice car, but the salesman was telling me that they actually were supposed to have a lot more, but Ford pushed the release date back to button up a few things. Overall, it was nice, but just a little out of our price range. So we looked at the other Fusions on the lot, and really liked a 2010 hybrid they had. Longer story shorter...I now own a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, that has pretty much every option. Not what I intended to buy, but I do get to keep my truck...and save a ton of money on gas.
well ive had a long day. congrats on the new car josiah! and nice brendon, us big guys gotta keep our figures somehow
this is much more amusing than what im going to post after it
first of all, thanks to greg for making the trip up to help out! wish we could have done more.. but 10 years of rust prohibited that
so... i started with the drivers side. all 8 studs came out without a single issue. new header went in without a single issue. getting EGR tube out of manifold was a little difficult, but nothing i couldnt handle. heres some pics
pain in the *** to take the liner out, but much easier to work
success
and the passenger side is where the fun begins. i think it was the first stud i touched... took 2 small spins with the ratchet to break the rust loose and the stud fell out, broken off 1/4" inside the head. same thing with the bolt below it. 1 stud broke off with about 1/2" OUTside the head, the nuts just came off of 3 somehow, leaving the stud inside, and the others all came out fine. so.. now is when i begin pondering my limited options. jack up engine and try to drill out?? no room really for trans to move up though. which leads me to bring to shop and have them remove head and send to machine shop? the right way to do it, but ill be broke for sure. anyone have any shop recommendations? i know monaco will have no issue with taking heads off after all the spark plug issues, but it will cost me for sure
front of head
rear 3 ports
back of head (bolts broken inside) found my exhaust leak though...
and heres how it sits until tomorrow, where i guess i will try to get out the 4 studs still sticking out, get the header on with 6 bolts and drive it home until i find out what im doing.
