My 2001 F-350 failed NY inspection due to 'excessive looseness in the steering/front end', so after I turned down PepBoys offer to do the needed work for $1600, plus parts, I started researching and figuring out how to do ball joints and other front end components myself.
While trying to buy bushings for my 4WD vehicle, it appears you can buy bushings with camber/caster at "0 degrees;" or "+/- 1/2 degree;" or "+/- 1 degree;" etc., etc., all the way to "+/- 2 degrees." I got this information at the RockAuto.com website.
So my question is how do you figure out what is the correct bushing to replace the one which is worn? Do you need to take the old one out first, and then figure out how the camber/caster "degrees" are measured, and only then can you order the correct replacement?
