Well, after owning it for five years, the head on my 240ci inline 6 finally cracked, in two places. I found a complete 300ci out of a 1976 F-150 that I've torn down and determined that it is in rebuildable condition. I have several questions mostly relating to adding mild power modifications. Specifically, I'd like to change to a 4bbl carb if possible or (longshot) get some kind of adapter to run the 2bbl Weber that I already own. Just my luck, both carburetors from the two engines are in sad shape. If a manifold/carb conversion is not an option, do rebuilding kits exist for either of the 1bbl carbs that were original equipment on these engines? Air filter options would be nice as well. The current aftermarket air filter on my engine needs replacing. Also, is there any material difference between converting the existing distributor to pointless (but not futile ) ignition or replacing the distributor with a purpose-built pointless one? Both options I have in mind are made by Mallory. Any info or resources would be helpful, thanks.
This might be kinda late of a reply, I hope not. You should be able to pick up a four barrel intake from Clifford performance, offenhauser offers them as well, I think. I read in another post that edelbrock and some other companies used to make them, but stopped, but some are still available on ebay and such. I checked the clifford performance website and it looks as if you can even get a dual quad intake for your engine. They also have a triple side draught weber manifold and a tri-ram manifold. I couldn't find a website for the offy intakes right off the bat, you may be able to w/some searching, but you can check out the clifford performance website at www.cliffordperformance.com Oh, by the way, here is the address of the other post. https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/...mID9/2042.html Hope this helps out a lot. ----J.Bird
You can also try LMCtruck.com they have OEM parts for all of the ford motorcraft parts and many other goodies, they'll ship you a catalog for free.
Let me know how everything turns out.

Hi guys, I'm back. Thank you for the steer to Clifford Performance. They have exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, with two boys under the age of 5, my priorities haven't included spending money on The Beast. I do need a functional/reliable truck though. The specification page in my original owner's manual show that the difference in displacement between the 240ci and the 300ci is due to stroke, not bore. Since the bore is the same, can the good head off the 1976 300ci I have awaiting parts to rebuild be swapped for the totalled head on the 240ci currently in my truck? I still drive the old guy, but I'm worried that it's going to eat one of the badly sunken valves when I'm out in BFE somewhere. Any thoughts would be appreciated, even it it's just a "Fugetaboutit!" BTW, I updated my profile and added some pics of The Beast. I've replaced the damaged front end bodywork since the photos were taken and will post pics of the repairs soon.
I had a 74 F-100 years ago and I installed (just) hedman hedders, and I left
the small 1 barrel on the stock intake, and installed two 2 1/2 inch pipes and
muffs on it. The power differences was amazing, it felt like a V-8 and the engine
was (just) a 240 try just headers first you may not want to buy the intake
now!
i was just wondering, ive been reading these forums for a bit, and cant seem to find the topic i was looking at before. I am interested in finding an intake manifold for my 240 for triple carbs. All the sites i've looked at haven't gotten me anywhere, and i was just wondering where i could possibly get one custom made. I am from Northern Alberta, but currently in school in Lethbridge. Thanks, i have seen many pictures of tri carb intakes, but cant seem to find any for sale. Also, what are good 1 barrel carbs to top it off? sorry if this has been mentioned before.
Thanks for the input Wally. The 240 I have has a one-piece header (intake/exhaust) so I'm going to have to get both when I build the 300. For now, if I can put the head from the 300 on the 240 I'll be happy. Not looking for horsepower increases until I rebuild the 300, just peace of mind until I can.
Twin66, Clifford Performance has what you need. Both triple downdraft and triple sidedraft intake manifold. Prepare to drool :-) They are for Weber or Holley two-barrel carbs, not singles. I've never seen an intake set up for three single barrel carbs. If you are looking for two-barrel carbs, don't go through Clifford. Look through Hot VW's or VW Trends magazines for prices on Weber 2bbl carbs. Guys you can get TWO Weber 40 IDF's from many VW sources for the price Clifford sells one for. Even of you have to re-jet it, you're still money ahead. My plan is to put one on the 300 (will be plenty for my purposes) and either keep the other as a spare or resell it on Ebay :-)
Hey Projectnut; also check the performance threads under Inline six's etc, they got acouple post that cover alot about upgrading our 240's & 300's.
Also Wally; I got a question? When you change over to a header, I'm gurious as to how was you able to use the stock intake, my 300 & 240 intake & exhuast intake are connected by a intermittent gasket.
Does the header provide a plate to cover the intake hole?
CustomCab , I am tring to remember as I type, because I did this to this 74
F-100 about 18-19 years ago, and I think that it just unbolted from each
other . I think there are some hidden bolts/nut that can't be seen untill you
get it removed and laid out on the floor? The set of headers I bought came
with the gaskets and the headers were the easiest to install! Took about an hour and back then I did not have a lot of tools for truck repair!
Wally
P.S I have a freind that I used to work with and when I would see him years
later he would say something about the I-line 6 that sounded like a V-8 !
