Time for a rant

Something has been bugging me lately and I don't know if it has just came to a head or I woke up on the wrong side of the bed but I need to get it off my chest.

I have been coming to this forum for a few years now and it is a wealth of knowledge. Everything you ever wanted to know, and then some, can be found on here.

Did you see that? It can be found on here

How many times do the following questions need to be asked?

How do I lower my truck?
Why aren't my dash lights working?
Why doesn't my fuel gauge work?
What kind of seats will fit in my truck?
What color should I paint it?
Can I put disk brakes on the rear?
How do I change the heater blower motor?
Where to get power for my choke? (I wasn't going to include this but there is a thread on there now that makes this warranted)
Lets see all (insert what you want here) dents. There are threads for lowered, super cabs, camper specials, flat decks, green, red, blue dents. Don't start any more of these threads! Make the others stickies.

I know there are probably more but that's the ones I could find on the first three pages this morning.

Now don't get me wrong. I understand questions and information are what makes a forum but this is a very fast moving forum and one of the reasons is that questions are asked over and over again.

I don't expect all things to be found by doing a search and I know I am guilty of asking a question that has been answered. I did it just a little while ago, I had a brain fart on the search criteria.

All I am saying is that I would like to see more information sharing and less redundant question asking. The thread on how to change your blower motor from the engine bay by Carny was a good read and valuable information. Build threads are great. I look forward to seeing a new post in crsweet78's interior thread, I cringed when I seen owlcore's thread on how to lower his truck, I didn't even open it.

Rant over.

I'll add a few more to your list...

Can i fit 38" tires on my truck?
Is my '79 F150 a highboy?
Should i pay my child support this month or buy a set of headers?

It goes on and on, i just ignore the dumb questions.

You can choose to answer or not answer.

It's just the nature of an open forum, democracy does not discriminate against the ignorant.

I get what you're saying but on the otherhand this is a FORUM. What good would it be if all there was were FAQs and stickies to read? Some of the things I have noticed in the repeated questions is sometimes a new idea or a new member has the same issue and finds the post. Heck I am even guilty of doing it and all the other forums I visit have the same isses. Just like any other conversation, everyone can decide if they want to join in or not.

Seems like about once a month in one of the forums I'm on some whiny bitch makes a thread like this. You know what you need to do? Berate all the new guys or make them feel intimidated to ask questions. Eventually you wont get new members and the forum will die.

So are you to good or to busy to help people with there questions? Who cares if it's been asked before? I mean really is it that big of a deal? How many new questions can there be for a vehicle that is over 30yrs old?

It's a forum, people ask questions others answer them.

Ive asked questions that probably have been answered here before , but i dont have much luck with the search and Im usually in a hurry.

Some guys got the answer you want on the top of there heads and freely give you the answer.

So i probably guilty of asking questions alreay answered but Ive always found someone glad to answer again.

Ok got your rant over with? And pay no mind to husker77's comment.....

husker 77 you sound like you fell out of the wrong side of the bed this am too, lol

..............................INSERT SARCASAM.............laughing.....

All I want is for the "search" to search just the 73-79 threads, not the whole dang web site.

I mean I do not need to know about the same subject in the SD or any other non 73-79 forum.

So can a IT computer guru guy link the search function to just the forum the user is currently in or has open? How about making the search function search a little better?

So all the new guys can have better luck trying to locate there answers there first?

When you search go to the advanced search and then you can hilite just the sub forums you want to search, and you can choose more than one.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - Search Forums

I have seen a lot of forums die because of attitudes like the op's. Not everyone has time to search page after page looking for an answer, I have spent 2hrs or better at times looking for an answer, but that when I was just watching football on Sunday and it wasn't important. Many times if I can't find it in 2-3 pages I will just ask it, I don't want to spend more time searching then it would take to do the project.

I don't know how many "rant" threads I have read on here, but there have been quite a few. You should have searched "rant" before you posted. It would have saved me the two minutes of my life I used to respond to this post. All joking aside, and I was joking, sometimes a basic question leads to different outlets and new information is learned. And also, sometimes it's just nice to get a personal response.

My theory exactly.

I also try and show links to stuff I searched for when answering questions, so people see it can be found.

Not that I answer very many questions.

One thing that would be nice is a sub forum just for project threads.

LOL. I understand the whiny bitch comment now. It was husker77 that asked where to get power for his choke yesterday. All the forums you visit only have one thing consistent, you. Did you ever stop to think maybe that is the cause of posts like this?

Try this link, it should help.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - Search Results

V10man, I agree 100%. Questions and information are what drives these forums and I do have the free will to join the conversation or not but some of the questions are getting very old.

I am guilty of asking stupid questions, questions that have been answered and questions just because I am to lazy to look for the answer as well.

77&78F250, you can just search this forum.

Do an advanced search. Put in what you are searching for just like you normally would and down on the right side you will see a list of all the forums. Scroll down and click on the forum you want to search and click on it. Leave everything else like it is (unless you want to change it) Now click on search now and you will only get posts from that forum.

I feel much better now.

Wow am I the computer dill iterate-idiot, all this time the search box had a drop down to the advanced search options and wala just what I asked for, its like magic in there.

Thanks boys for squaring me away, now I'll answer all you questions.

How do I lower my truck? With a lowering kit.
And why aren't my dash lights working? Light bulbs broken, ck fuse, pull ON THE HEADLIGHT SW AND TURN IT LEFT TO BRIGHTEN.
Why doesn't my fuel gauge work? Its probably a bad ground. OR OUT OF GAS...
What kind of seats will fit in my truck. Truck seats I would guess. 90 to 96 bolt right in.
What color should I paint it? Bedliner with pink flakes added in....or maybe green?
Can I put disk brakes on the rear? Yes with a kit AND YES IT WILL COST MONEY.
How do I change the heater blower motor? A 6 pk and some patiance and your basic Haynes/Chilton manual AND A FRIEND TO TALK TO.
Can I fit 38" tires on my truck? Not with out a lift or a sawzall.
Is my '79 F150 a highboy? Ah NO read the HB link on the front of this forum.
Should I pay my child support this month or buy a set of headers? Feed that dang kid, you will need him to help you put those headers in later on.

Come on new guys bring your pain and anguish and come on in here to the new friendlier FTE.

I started using this forum when I was a teenager and I've learned a lot. I used searches and asked questions when I couldn't get a direct answer. I'm sure many of the questions were stupid to some people, but we must remember that not everyone has the experience of others. They may be new to 73-79 fords or vehicles in general. Patience is a virtue.

Why don't we just create a gigantic diagnostic flow-chart and sticky it?

Actually my thread was the original one several weeks ago, and someone brought it back up to ask a question in it. You know what, someone told him to start his own thread.

Why are you wasting peoples time and cluttering the board repeating the exact same thing I posted 2 replies and 30 mins ago. Isn't that basically the same thing you are complaining about people doing? Hypocrite much?

I think maybe your reading and comprehending skills are a little lacking maybe.
