This^. Sorry to post a cringe-inducing thread about lowering my truck (I'm not really sorry,) but I am new to both this site and to this type of vehicle. In trying to search, I came across so much information and I didn't know what applied to my specific truck and my specific needs. Because of that, I posted a new thread, which was well written and very specific to my truck and what I'm hoping to achieve with it. The responses were specific and explained the answer in such a way that I was able to understand and learn about my vehicle. Now, next time it comes up, I may even be able to help other new people learn. That's the point of a forum, that's the point of a community. Not everyone knows everything, everyone has to start somewhere. Just be thankful that younger people are interested in keeping these old trucks on the road rather than junking them and getting a brand new Tacoma. If you don't want to help them learn, so be it, but no need to be a jerk to them.

I am younger myself and know where you are coming from. I was born in 91 and my truck was made in 78 lol The trucks I grew up with are fuel injected and independent suspension, nothing like these haha

Well,, I guess I am a Gen X'er also,,, and I have to correct your saying,,,, well,, not correct it,,, but add a variation,,,

Here's a saying that holds true:

"Feed a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.
"

The prevailing trend in today's society is to feed.... unfortunately, spoonfeed.

I like the other version, I think it came from the USMC;

"Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm the rest of his life."

X2 HIO Silver... Well said on the definition of the Boomer as I are one. The computer and the info Hwy and I are NOT very good friends. If you SHOW me how to do it, it mat take 2 or 3 stabs , but I will learn how it's done. I to have problems navigating around the search engines. My Grand daughter is 16 and was raised around computers and gets upset when I am not fast enough for her or do the wrong thing. Anyway that's how i feel. lol

Here's my take...I'm closing in on 30...I have a cumulative 50,000 posts across the internet on 7-8 different sites, some large, some small. I know how to manipulate most search features, however, usually I don't have the time to spend 15-30 minutes to filter through threads that don't really apply or go way off topic...especially knowing I can post and typically have an answer in less than 5 minutes.

My take on newbies asking redundant questions...they're new...you don't like their question, don't answer...it is just that simple. Not to mention, it'll be a helluva good board when all the activity stops because everyone is searching for topics...great idea.

Finally...I always love when folks throw the blame on the younger generations and they're the ones causing all the problems. I have to stop and ask...who in the hell raised them??? Ironically, no one ever has the worthless child(ren).

I close by saying...get over yourself. I mean c'mon, you're on the internet already, so it's not like you're really doing anything important. You're spending more time pissing and moaning than it would have taken to just answer the question. If you are God's gift to dentsides, share that knowledge. Perfect example, our resident ND...I've followed him on the internet for upwards of 8 years now...I'd bet he has replied to some of the same questions more than alot of people even have posts. Get off the high horse people, help or don't help...it's just that simple.

I too am an offender of the "redundant thread" poster. I came on to this site 2 years ago when I got my first dent, and to be honest, I didn't know about the search function until about a year ago, and I actually never knew about the advance search until now

I do have to agree with the new generation wanting "instant results" for something they are wondering about, but I don't think it's something that they should be degraded by the older gens for. Each generation has their way of going about things, and they do them differently. Those who didn't grow up with the wealth of information on the internet (like the boomers) can go through the process of diagnostics to figure out what is wrong, because that's how they were raised. The new gen has grown up with he internet, and they are used to looking something up on the net and getting a result rather quickly, rather than go through the process of diagnostics.

When I first started working on my truck, I wanted to know what was going on, why it was going on, and how to fix it right away because I wanted it to no longer be a problem and move onto what's next. A few months into my truck ownership, my dad (a boomer) started to teach me how to do the process of diagnostics. Now, I go through it as much as I can before I come on the forum asking questions. If the new generation of people don't have someone who can teach them the old ways, they are naturally going to default to what they know how to do: Ask Google (Or FTE)

Something that I thought of while I was typing this, some people are complaining about all the redundant "how do I do this" "what color should I paint my ___" etc, but I don't see anyone complaining about the plethora of build threads that exist on the forum. It seems to me that at least everyone has a build thread (me included) of some sort, and they litter the '73-'79 trucks section as much as the redundant "newbie" threads do, and yet nobody complains about those

I don't mind seeing all the "redundant" threads. Like people said before, if you don't like it, don't look at it. It lets me know that people are still coming here for information, and reminds me of when I first started out and all the people who helped me, and how much it helped me move on with my truck project. If it were not for the people here who answered my "newbie" threads, I probably never would have gone as far as I have with my truck.

Just my $0.02

sorry for the long post

How do I lower my truck? With a lowering kit.
And why aren't my dash lights working? Light bulbs broken, ck fuse, pull ON THE HEADLIGHT SW AND TURN IT LEFT TO BRIGHTEN.
Why doesn't my fuel gauge work? Its probably a bad ground. OR OUT OF GAS...
What kind of seats will fit in my truck. Truck seats I would guess. 90 to 96 bolt right in.
What color should I paint it? Bedliner with pink flakes added in....or maybe green? I might actually do that lol
Can I put disk brakes on the rear? Yes with a kit AND YES IT WILL COST MONEY.
How do I change the heater blower motor? A 6 pk and some patiance and your basic Haynes/Chilton manual AND A FRIEND TO TALK TO.
Can I fit 38" tires on my truck? Not with out a lift or a sawzall.
Is my '79 F150 a highboy? Ah NO read the HB link on the front of this forum.
Should I pay my child support this month or buy a set of headers? Feed that dang kid, you will need him to help you put those headers in later on.

Come on new guys bring your pain and anguish and come on in here to the new friendlier FTE.
What really "P's" me off is when you answer a question like what kind of fuel mileage will I get, Idk like 8-10, Well what can I do to bring it up, Buy an EFI. And then when another guy answered say the same thing like you are trying to get a different response just to make you feel better. (this was me like 3 weeks after I joined hahaha). I actually had a better point to this but it disappeared in my tiny little brain so I will post it when I remember.

AGREE 100%! The definition of a forum: "A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation." For all the cranky dudes that just berate and intimidate users, they should not participate in this "forum", they need to particpate in a "library". I think part of the fun is to see what the guys are working on and have a discussion. It would be incredibly boring to just search topics in a table of contents for a FAQ or something....boring! If you are too busy or smarter than everyone else or whatever, then don't open the thread...don't look at it...don't respond....nobody is making you. Let's keep it fun!
