Hi, I own a 1990 Ford Bronco. It has the 351W. I was off-roading yesterday. I went through a river bottom that had a bunch of "pot holes" in the sand. These holes shook my bronco up really good. It made the check engine light come on and it wouldn't turn off for 30 minutes. This happens everytime I go on this trail. Can someone please tell me what is causing this!! By the way, the truck runs great even with the light on. Thanks in Advance!!!
Sounds to me like you may be getting a sensor connection or quite possibly the EEC-IV test conncector wet. This could cause a false reading until it drys itself up......just a shot in the dark.
No, it couldn't have been wet because, I didn't drive through any water. Maybe the vibration is shaking something up. Does anyone know what it could be??
Hey guys, I'm gonna go down to my local wal-mart today. they sell code readers for ford vehicles. They are only $25.00. I'll pull the codes and let you guys know what I fouond out. By the way thanks a BUNCH MrWizard for the link to the codes!!!!
No. It's just a black box with an expensive connector, a tiny switch, and an LED. It does EXACTLY the same thing as a paperclip and the engine light. Only the more expensive ones show numerals.
Steves instructions seem to be pretty straight forward but if you had trouble with them maybe the $25 will save you some headache. Or take it to a shop and just enjoy driving the Bronco and don't try working on it. Sometimes you can throw money at a problem you can't figure out and it the long run spend more than it would have cost to take in in the first place. Not everyone is mechanically inclined as well as Steve is, but thankfully he is here to help out those people and maybe FTE should start an award to recognize Steve83 and the other religious posters on here that help everyone out. I move to nominate Steve83 for the posting Hall of Fame for FTE.
First off, where do you get off assuming I'm not mechanically inclined. I can gaurantee I've owned and worked on way more vehicles than you ever will in your life time. So before you assume something make sure you got your facts straight.
Also I've been working on cars for quite a while. I've never heard of this paper clip stuff. I already bought the Code reader, I will pull the codes this saturday. I will let you know what I found out.

First of all who is assuming here? I was just saying Steve knows his stuff pretty well. Maybe the desert heat is frying your brain? I have been working on cars since I was 13 myself so I can handle myself but who cares how many cars you have worked on. We are all just trying to help out. I would probably get a code reader myself $25 isn't a major investment, but Steve was just trying to help out by saving you a few bucks. Even pulling the codes I have been trying to chase down the cause of the CEL coming on and going off every two weeks in my Bronco and it can get frustrating. thought I figured it out when I found loose power steering cap but three weeks later the light is back on after the temp here dropped below 50 degrees. Besides what facts did I have to get straight the you were confused by the directions fact or did I miss the ASE Certified Mechanic part of your Sig? (just kidding LOL) Next time you get upset over something posted go take it out on the Chevy Truck forum, not on a Bronco guy trying to help out.
Well, the thing that bugged me was when you said "just take the truck to a shop and just enjoy driving it. Not everyone is mechanically inclined like steve is". Hey we all have misunderstandings. No hard feelings. Thanks for trying to help anyway!!
Not everyone is mechanically inclined "as well as" Steve is, but thankfully he is here to help out those people.... No hard feelings, just read closer next time look at the quotes I left them out originally but I didn't say you weren't mechanically inclined, but I can see where it could be interpreted that way since you are reading something and it is had to show sometimes intentions without verbal communication. Later and good luck my CEL went off again on the way to work, still haven't figured out why!!!!!
