I found the adjustment nut near the handle on the emergency brake, it may have tightened some but now won't back off and it seems the brakes are dragging and getting hot. I imagine i can only try to remove the drums and let some tension off, but is the cable expensive and a nightmare to change?, thanks.
My mechanic corrected me when I called it the "emergency brake". You cannot stop your vehicle by pulling up on the handle of the "Parking Brake". years ago I do remember people call this brake an emergency brake when the mechanism was a pedal on the far left side of the interior where your regualar brake and gas pedals are found. Those older emergency brakes could stop your vehicle. The set up was different somewhat than the parking brakes of today. And the force used with your foot was much greater than you can apply when using the lever that is found on most vehicles today.
I had my cable replaced once at about 90K, not a big job and my guy charged me less than $100 to change it.
very true Tony, it seems to be frozen and not tightening with the socket from in the cab area on the handle, but if you pull up hard it will lock hard and the handle releases but the cables don't. I'd say they are getting hung up somewheres because i have to take the drums off and back the brakes off manually. Thanks
