i have a 96 f150, we replaced the fuel pump with a new one and a new sending unit, i had no gauge before and i thought that was because of the sending unit not being on the old pump, but we put a new one in it and i still have no fuel gauge, i have no clue what else to do, the gauge sits on full and when it starts up the gauge moves past full, it moves the same amount whether i have one gallon or 10 gallons of gas in the tank. do any of yall have any ideas, or have anything i need to check?? thanks in advance!!
Check the continuity of your gauge circuit wires. If no opens or shorts, are you sure your sending unit is ok? If all else tests out as in order you may have a faulty gauge - open windings or loose contact(s). I believe your sending unit resistance range should be ~15 ohms at the "low" or empty end and ~160 ohms at the "high" or full end.
A gauge that moves passed full has an open wire between the gauge and the tank and then to ground.
I would check the selector switch on the dash for bad contacts.
honesty with this truck it wouldn't surprise me if there was a bad wire between the sending unit and gauge, we've already had to replace the power wire to the pump because it was grounded out somewhere along the way to the the pump, so i think that is what im going to check for first is a grounded out wire
The wire would be open and not grounded or shorted to ground.
In other words you have an open and not a short.
A short to ground would peg the gauge passed empty.
