Fuel Gauge Reading Incorrectly

Just seeing if any of you guys have any ideas...

I recently replaced both the tank and sending unit in my truck. Prior to this everything worked correctly, but I replaced them because the tank was smashed and full of debris. I also replaced the sending unit because it was very corroded.

Now my gauge only reads 1/4 tank when full. I have tried 3 new sending units (from 2 differently suppliers) and 2 gauges - all with the same results.

Any ideas?

Make sure the sending unit is grounded first. Run a ground wire from the unit to a good ground. If that doesn't work remove the wire going from the sending unit to the fuel gauge and touch it to ground with the key on. This should make the fuel gauge show full. If so, the the problem is in the sending unit and not the gauge. Maybe the float is being obstructed in the tank. If it stays at 1/4 or doesn't move at all then the gauge is bad...

On my new tank install, I had to modify the float length to get it to correspond with the gauge readings. then I added 5 gal at a time to see where the gauge actually read.

Seems strange that you have changed senders and yet the gauge is reading faulty. I would be looking at the gauge. It may have the issues, not the sender.

Yes I agree with Bleuy. Check the gauge, but also check out the ohmns reading in both gauge and sending unit. In my ventures, I once ordered the right sending unit; but, I found out (after a self hair pulling contest! lol ) that the company sent me the wrong unit. Good luck!
