Finished work in Salinas early today and was treated to a visit with 51PanelMan and his beautiful family in a stop on my way to the San Jose airport.
Ilya has an awesome array of artifacts, documents and brochures on our trucks (not to mention all the parts). I had never seen most of it anywhere. I felt like an old friend, even though we just met face to face.
Thanks Ilya. And I don't think I thanked your wife for the cold water (my Mama would spank me for being rude). I was overwhelmed with your collection.
BTW, that green 52 panel runs great! And I dig the ooga horn...
Joe it was a pleasure meeting you as well. Wish you had more time to stick around and enjoy more of the brochures. Had you had more time, I would have pulled out the Panel truck and the Airflow for a cruise. Maybe next time.
I met up with Ilya many years ago during our family trip to CA. Also wish we had more time to hand out. Maybe some day when I'm old and tired, not so far off, I'll take a tripout that way again. Or, Ilya, you could come out to the great upper midwest and hang out here for a few days.
Always have a good time meeting FTEers face to face.
C'mon back out this way,Bob,JRJ.I heard a rumor Ilya is hosting the West Coast Edition of Truckstock next year.LOL!

Joe, I also forgot to thank you for helping me remove and fold the Panel's cover that I need to send back.
Well some of us in the bay area ought to get on this, considering there are quite a few of us out here. I don't have the space either, but I'm happy to work on the organization. There are quite a few campgrounds up in the mountains... how cool would it be to have a truck run through the redwoods from the covered bridge park or the Roaring Camp railroad station in Felton to the beach and Wharf in Santa Cruz?
That was my pleasure, and the least I could do after you invited me into your home.
I love the fact that this thread has turned into discussions of Truckstock West.
Many of the Ca. State parks have group campsites available.Big Basin, for instance, right near me and real close to everything badgerhound mentioned( and lots more). It's nice and cool under the redwoods, too, even in summer.
I've got a friend (no,seriously,I really do!) that has acreage in the mountains above Santa Cruz, owns a Christmas Tree Farm.
He might be persuaded to allow a few of us to camp a couple nights? It's a thought.
This is definitely worth a follow up.

Exactly! We could even try to get some sponsorship to cover camping fees if people were interested in going that route.

It's an idea whose time has come! And thanks to the folks out east for the inspiration!!!
I thinking about holding 2013 at my place so the Canadian and upper midwestenerns could attend but if you guys want to hold one that's fine. Maybe I'd try to make it with the panel this time. I have the mountain part handled after 421.
We can work Truckstock our way to the West. Since it was in the East, it can move to the Midwest, then the West. If this continues, then everyone would know that Truckstock will be in their region every three years. That's how most national car clubs do it.
Put it together,Badger. Not sure that the half dozen or so members who would come to such a gathering, warrants us asking anyone for sponsorship money, though.Us locals could certainly pony up a bit extra to show hospitality to any guests from afar though. The group campsite is not expensive, and will usually accommodate at least a dozen people,I think.I live real close, could hook us up with some good food,my treat.
Only remember,Ford truck owners drive their trucks, not trailering them like C***y owners and - dare I say it - Hardly Able,Son owners!LOL
