I was returning from the landfill after dumping a big load of brush and yard waste and my brake pedal went tot he floor. I made it home all right. When I pumped the top on the master cylinder the rear reservoir was empty.
Is the reservoir nearest the firewall for the rear brakes? I would assume but... you know about the word assume....
I added brake fluid but when I pumped the pedal it still seemed spongy and went to the floor. I do not see any sign of fluid leaking at the wheels.
I will get under the truck tomorrow. Would you suspect a hole in the brake line?
Generally the rear reservoir is the front brakes on a dual system. It will also be the largest. It shouldn't be hard to look under the truck and see where the fluid had escaped. Of course it will still be spnongy after you add fluid as there is trapped air in there. After you fix the leak you will need to bleed the system.
Thanks for your help everyone. I crawled under the truck this morning. I looks like the leak is somewhere near the left front wheel. I havent seen the exact location but I will have to have the whole line replaced. I don't think it is the flexible line to the wheel.
