I have a 1994 ford F250 4x4.
The brakes will slowly go to the floor when I’m at full stop and the truck is running. If the truck is off the brake pedal is hard and stays up. I’m not loosing fluid. I have replace the Master cylinder. But the problem is still there. I have bled all four-brake line at the wheels. I do have a busing noise at times coming from the dash. Like some one is blowing a kazoo. Could the power bake booster be bad? How do you test for this?
If the pedal is slowly sinking to the floor, either the seals in the master are leaking, or you have a leak in the system.
Is the level in the master cylidner reservoir dropping? If yes, then the fluid is going somewhere. If you absolutely cannot find a leak anywhere in the system, and you're losing fluid, then 9 times out of 10, the master cylinder is leaking into the brake booster.
It is possible that you got a bad master cylinder.
it is also possible that the rear abs accumulater is leaking internally . It has been known to cause the same problems. It wont show any sign of fluid leak either. Underadjusted rear brakes can also cause a sinking low pedal.
TXF250- I have the same problem with an 86 250 i just purchased.do your brakes stay consistent, just soft all the time?I have the buzzing sound too,but think i may have a bad speedo cable.I think the prob is the m/c or b/b not sure how to tell.
My brakes were getting more and more soft as time was going on, until the point i had to pump them just to stop even if i was going 10 miles an hour. When we pulled the rear tires off, the line cracked, the shoes were wet adn were beginning to crack. If you have duel rear wheels like i do, pull the back tires and axle, repair the line and shoes, and get a new rear axle seal, i think its 10 bucks and your pretty much good to go once you bleed thelines and adjust everything to your liking, it took us 2 hours to do on both rear wheels, check the master cylinder to see if fluid levels are low
I think you have a master cylinder that is leaking internally. That way the fluid stays in the system, but the pedal goes to the floor.
Mine did that once, if I stood on the pedal it did not leak off, but if I just had enough pressure on the pedal to keep the truck from rolling it slowly went to the floor. After a while it did not make any difference how hard I pushed on the pedal, it went down slowly. Never did lose any fluid while this was going on. I have also bought bad clutch and brake master cylinders off the shelf.
I would be willing to bet it is your abs valve it is located on the frame rail right below the master cyl. I had the same problem. you can get a replacement valve from napa for around150.00 or 250.00 from dealer. I ended up bypassing it and I have not had any problems if you want to go that route I can get you more info. you can also take that valve apart I beleave there are 4 Orings that need to be replacede but you need to be vary carful not to damage the gasket. or you are out of luck and silicon wont work. and you cant buy that gasket.
Well the soft brake problem is gone, the m/c gave up and now it goes way down then stops. I jacked up the truck, had significant other apply brake and am getting nothing to the rear wheels.I will be replacing m/c as i know the rears are properly adjusted. Also brake warning light came on at same time.Never have lost any fluid.
