GM trucks have def fill under the hood. That would suck with those 2.5 gallon containers, PIA to hold it up there and deal with spillage. I would need a ladder to do that and I'm six feet tall.
Yeah it's on the passenger side firewall towards the engine. Struck me as a major PIA to refill holding the jug out and up high like you would have to.
I heard that for 2013 they will go DEF. Prescious metals are forcing the change. Since this will be a first year run with DEF I would wait a bit before I would even consider it.
RAM has been using DEF in their chassis cab trucks so it's nothing new to them, but RAM's marketing has always downplayed the use of DEF in the competitors trucks. Because of their marketing plays many people didn't know RAM did indeed used DEF.
385/850 and a legitimate transmission. Most payload and towing capacity across the board. Lockout front hubs like our Super Dutys. Two radiators and two tranny coolers. Ram has come out to play fellas.

I agree... And don't forget RAM will now have the two swing arms on their 4x4's like the SD trucks as well.
The 2500 series trucks will have 370/800ft/lbs and will still use the 68RFE tranny and 385/850ft/lbs with the optional Aisin tranny in the 3500 series.
Also they are suggesting 15,000 mile OCI also which is impressive.
If I buy a new diesel truck it's going to be a Dodge because I refuse to buy a slushbox. Sure it's only 650 torque but it's enough for me. I'm not a fan of DEF but it's better than a 6.7 with high EGR since they get crap mileage like a 6.4. The 850 torque should really get the load off the line which the Cummins has always been good at. If you like Cummins pickups the 850tq should be better. My opinion is that if you are a bug truck person like me you'll like the Cummins since they act more like a big truck IMO. If you are used to a Dmax or PS I don't think you'll like the Dodge even with 850tq since they don't have the high end like the V8s.
I agree the resale sucks but you can get a new Dodge cheaper too so I think it's a wash. The only Dodge trucks with great resale are the 12valve trucks. You can bet I'm keeping mine unless I find a nicer 12v (preferably a stick) to replace the automatic one I have.
As I said my next new truck will be a Dodge but only to get the stick. If they discontinue the g56 I'll get a Ford. 385/850 and 400/800 are both more than I need but I like the Ford truck better overall. I was opposed to Mexican assembled Dodges but now that Ford has a Mexican diesel and tcase its USA assembly and Mexican engine or USA engine and Mexican assembly. And a bunch of Chinese parts in both.

Before I purchased my '12 SD I test drove a RAM 6.7 and by the seat of my pants the power felt about like my 6.0 psd.
The power of the Ford 6.7 psd is day and night difference than the cummins 6.7.
Now that the Cummins comes with SCR, you'd be downright dumb to write the Dodge off as an inferior truck.
The new '13 model addresses pretty much all of the issues with the previous model. The new tranny, new infotainment system, and new emissions package makes it very competitive in the market.
Ford is going to lose sales to this truck no doubt. Last time I priced the Dodge, it was a few grand cheaper to boot. If that is still the case, Ford better watch out.
It's interesting that they didn't look for a bigger horsepower number, as that was the primary shortcoming discussed in head-to-head tests between Ford, GM and Dodge with the current trucks. That and the transmission, of course.

the 6.7 getting mileage like the 6.4?? my ford 6.7 gets as good or better mileage than all but one of my cummins dodges and that was a single cab 2wd 93 model. the ford 6.7 gets pretty darn good mileage for what it is, at the moment its the best of the big 3 diesels. I think the dodge will get better mileage and might even reclaim the top mileage spot with SCR technology. the inline 6 of the cummins has generally been a more fuel effiecient design than the v8 diesels. we will wait and see keep in mind dodge has went through some problems and is owned by fiat, I also think fiat is doing some unwise things with the company. I think trying to make a separate ram brand is a mistake.
